Chauffeur service across Chile: what to know

Santiago's Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL) is about 17 km north-west of the city centre. International flights use Terminal 2, which opened in 2022, and domestic flights use Terminal 1. The drive to the hotels and offices of Providencia, Las Condes and Vitacura usually takes 25 to 50 minutes on the urban motorways. Chile's agricultural agency, the SAG, inspects arriving luggage strictly: fresh fruit, meat, honey and seeds must be declared, and undeclared items bring fines. Because the queues at SAG and immigration can be long, you get 60 minutes of included waiting from the actual landing.

The chauffeur meets you at the terminal's designated area for pre-booked cars. A name-board greeting in the arrivals hall is an add-on in selected locations. Urban motorways, smog rules and when to travel

Chile drives on the right. Santiago's urban motorways, such as Costanera Norte and Vespucio Norte, charge tolls with free-flow electronic tags and have no toll booths. In the colder months, roughly May to August, the authorities can declare air-quality episodes that restrict which vehicles may circulate. Traffic peaks on Avenida Apoquindo and Avenida Kennedy weekdays from about 7:30 to 9:30 and from 18:00 to 20:00.

The Viña del Mar International Song Festival takes place in February, and Lollapalooza Chile in March. Harvest festivals in the wine valleys run in March and April. The ski season runs from about June to September. Fiestas Patrias, on 18 and 19 September, is the biggest holiday of the year. Business districts and destinations

The financial district that locals call Sanhattan, spread across Las Condes and Vitacura, holds most of Santiago's corporate headquarters. The embassies and government offices are in Providencia and the historic centre. SCL is the arrival point for almost every international visitor. Valparaíso is home to the National Congress, and its cruise terminal handles South American itineraries in the southern summer. Wineries and ski resorts make popular day trips from the capital. For a Valparaíso day with stops at Casablanca wineries on the way, keep the car on an hourly booking so it waits while you taste. The Atacama Desert and Patagonia are reached by domestic flights from SCL, to Calama, Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales, and a chauffeur is then booked from the regional airport. Flights to Easter Island also leave from Santiago.
