Chauffeur service across New Zealand: arrival and biosecurity

Auckland Airport is New Zealand's main international gateway, with separate international and domestic terminals linked by a walkway and shuttle. Christchurch serves the South Island, Wellington the capital, and Queenstown receives trans-Tasman flights from Australia. Pre-booked cars wait at the designated pickup area outside each terminal, and the chauffeur is timed to the tracked landing, with 60 minutes of included waiting on international arrivals and 30 minutes on domestic flights. Visitors from visa-waiver countries must hold a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority, and most also pay the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy, both arranged through Immigration New Zealand. Biosecurity checks are strict: food, plant material and outdoor gear must be declared, and hiking boots may be inspected, which can add time between landing and the pickup.

Road rules, tolls and the travel calendar

New Zealand drives on the left. A few roads are tolled electronically, including the Northern Gateway toll road north of Auckland and two routes around Tauranga, with no booths to stop at. Auckland's motorways are congested at peak hours, particularly across the Harbour Bridge and on State Highway 1 through the central motorway junction. In winter, snow and ice can close the Crown Range and the Milford Road, and chains are sometimes required, while the Homer Tunnel on the Milford route has avalanche controls.

Choosing a vehicle class in New Zealand

Christchurch to Queenstown is about 480 km and six to seven hours by road through the Mackenzie Basin, so most travellers fly that leg. Rotorua's geothermal parks, the Bay of Islands around Paihia and Russell, and the Marlborough wine country near Blenheim are the other regions chauffeured itineraries reach, usually with a short domestic flight first.
