Queens Wharf, Princes Wharf and the terminal
Auckland's cruise berths are in the heart of the city waterfront, at the foot of Queen Street.

The terminal is run by Ports of Auckland. On busy days two ships are in port at once and the wharf roads are managed by traffic staff; tell us which ship you are on so the chauffeur goes to the correct side.
Cruise lines and the New Zealand season
The New Zealand season runs from about October to April. Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Celebrity, Holland America, Cunard, Ponant and others sail from or call at Auckland on New Zealand, South Pacific and trans-Tasman itineraries, and several start or end round-New Zealand cruises here.
Sailing day at the wharf
The chauffeur drives down Quay Street to the wharf entrance and follows traffic staff to the private-vehicle set-down at the terminal, where porters take tagged cases. Quay Street is partly pedestrianised, so allow a few extra minutes for the approach. From Viaduct or CBD hotels, the drive is 5-10 minutes; from Parnell or Ponsonby, 10-15 minutes; from the airport, 30-50 minutes.
Disembarkation: the pickup point
New Zealand's biosecurity checks are among the strictest in the world, so clearing customs and the Ministry for Primary Industries inspection can take a while on a full ship. After you are through, walk to the transport area outside the terminal, where taxis, coaches and pre-arranged cars wait. The chauffeur waits there. Choose a pickup time 30-45 minutes after your group is released. The booking allows 15 free minutes of waiting, then charges each further 15 minutes.
Let the chauffeur know by phone or text once your luggage is cleared. A name board at the exit is the meet and greet add-on, available in selected locations only.

At Auckland Airport, the international and domestic terminals are a few minutes apart. The chauffeur tracks your flight and waits 60 minutes free after an international arrival and 30 minutes after a domestic one. For a flight on disembarkation day, allow four hours for international and three for domestic; the motorway to the airport is congested in weekday peaks. Auckland Airport posts terminal information.
Entry and biosecurity
Most visitors need a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) or a visa before they arrive, including cruise passengers. Food, plant material, outdoor equipment and some souvenirs must be declared on arrival, and undeclared items can mean an instant fine. The Ministry for Primary Industries explains the rules.
Hotels near the waterfront
The Park Hyatt and the Hilton Auckland on Princes Wharf sit on the water, and the SO/ Auckland, Hotel Britomart, the InterContinental and the hotels around Commercial Bay are within a few minutes of the terminal. The Grand by SkyCity is close to the Sky Tower. Being so central, a hotel to ship transfer takes minutes, but it saves carrying cruise luggage along Quay Street.
Port-day private tours from Auckland
With an hourly chauffeur (minimum three hours):
- City and volcanoes. Mount Eden and One Tree Hill for views, then Parnell and the Auckland Domain.
- West Coast beaches. Piha and the Waitakere Ranges, about 45 minutes away.
- Matakana and the north. Wineries, the farmers market (Saturday) and the coast north of the city.
- Hobbiton. A full day at Matamata, best for longer calls; book the tour tickets separately.

Driving notes
New Zealand drives on the left. The route from the airport uses State Highway 20 and the Waterview Tunnel or SH1; there are no tolls on these roads. Weekday peaks run from about 07:00 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 18:30, and city-centre roadworks change lane layouts from month to month.

The fare covers the car, the chauffeur, GST and the waiting allowance, and child seats are free on request. Cancelling more than 72 hours before pickup is free; 10 % applies within 72 hours, 50 % within 48 hours and 100 % within 24 hours or for a no-show.
