Streets in the historic centre are narrow and steep, and parts of the Largo do Senado area are pedestrian only, so drop-offs happen at the nearest permitted kerb. Resort driveways in Cotai handle heavy taxi and shuttle volumes at show times and on weekend evenings.

The Macau Grand Prix is usually held in November on the Guia street circuit, closing roads around the Outer Harbour for several days. Chinese New Year (January or February) and the October Golden Week bring very large visitor numbers from the mainland. The Macao International Fireworks Display Contest usually runs on weekends in September and October around Macau Tower. Typhoon season runs from roughly May to October, and signal warnings can suspend ferries at short notice.
