Chauffeur service across Malaysia: what to know

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) is in Sepang, about 55 km south of the Petronas Towers. It has two separate terminals, KLIA Terminal 1 for full-service carriers and Terminal 2 for low-cost airlines, and they are not a short walk apart, so tell the booker which one you are landing at. The drive into KLCC or Bukit Bintang usually takes 45 to 75 minutes on the expressways. Business jets and turboprops use Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, which is much closer to the city. Penang International (PEN) is at Bayan Lepas, roughly 30 to 45 minutes from George Town. Langkawi (LGK) is at Padang Matsirat, a few minutes from the beaches at Pantai Cenang.

Pickups are made at each terminal's designated area for pre-booked cars. Your confirmation names the vetted local affiliate and your chauffeur, and flights are tracked so the car is there for the real landing time, not the timetable. You get 60 minutes of included waiting on international flights and 30 on domestic ones. A name board in the arrivals hall can be added in selected locations. Most foreign visitors must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card online in the three days before they arrive. Road distances from the capital and the islands

The route to Penang uses the North-South Expressway and one of the two bridges to the island. You can book any of these as a one-way intercity transfer or as a day at the hourly rate.

Traffic, weather and festival dates

Malaysia drives on the left, and the main expressways collect tolls electronically. In Kuala Lumpur, the Federal Highway, Jalan Tun Razak and the roads into Bangsar and Mont Kiara are slowest between 7:30 and 9:30 and again after 17:30. Heavy afternoon downpours often slow things further. Before the major holidays, city residents drive back to their home towns, and the expressways stay congested for days.

The northeast monsoon brings the heaviest rain to the east coast from roughly November to March. On the west side, Penang and Langkawi usually have their driest weather from December to April. Thaipusam draws huge crowds to Batu Caves in January or February. Chinese New Year falls around the same period, and the dates of Hari Raya Aidilfitri follow the Islamic calendar. Merdeka Day is 31 August. The Malaysian MotoGP round at the Sepang circuit, close to the airport, is usually held in October or November. The LIMA maritime and aerospace show takes over Langkawi every second year, usually in May.

Which of the nine classes fits

A Standard Sedan (2 passengers, 2 bags) is enough for one traveller with a meeting in Putrajaya. Families landing at KLIA with big cases fit better in a Standard Black SUV (Suburban class, 6 passengers, 6 bags). For board members or a visiting principal, book the Executive First Class Sedan (Maybach). A Sprinter Van (12 passengers) suits a wedding party travelling to a Genting or Penang venue, and a Party Bus (14 passengers) is available for a night out in Bukit Bintang. Where travellers go

Business trips in Kuala Lumpur usually run between KLCC, the Tun Razak Exchange financial district, Bangsar South and the federal ministries in Putrajaya. KLIA and the Subang business aviation terminal are the two arrival points. In Penang, travellers split between George Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the electronics plants of the Bayan Lepas industrial zone.
