Why KLIA is a long drive
Kuala Lumpur International Airport is in Sepang, in the south of Selangor, roughly 50 to 60 kilometres from the Petronas Twin Towers. It was built there in the 1990s to allow room for growth, and the city's newer administrative centre, Putrajaya, and the Cyberjaya technology zone sit in between. The distance makes a pre-booked car a practical choice for most arrivals, especially at night or with luggage.

The two terminals are about 2 kilometres apart by rail and a little further by road. Terminal 2 was known as klia2 until it was renamed. International flights at Terminal 1 often arrive at the satellite building, so allow 10 to 15 minutes for the aerotrain and the walk to immigration. Your flight number tells our system the right terminal.
Where the chauffeur picks you up
Standard service is curbside pickup at the area KLIA designates for pre-arranged and e-hailing cars at your terminal, which is signposted from the arrivals level. After immigration, baggage and customs, message the chauffeur for the door or lane number. The chauffeur waits outside with the car. To be met at the arrivals exit with a name board, add meet and greet when you book; add-ons are only available in selected locations.
Malaysia Digital Arrival Card and immigration
Most foreign visitors must submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within three days before arrival, through the Immigration Department of Malaysia. Many nationalities can enter visa-free for a set period; check the current rules for your passport. Eligible travellers can use the automated gates, which speeds up arrival. Allow 30 to 60 minutes from landing to the car on most days. The 60 free minutes run from the actual landing, then waiting is charged in 15-minute blocks.

Malaysia drives on the left. The main route into the city is the North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE) and the Maju Expressway (MEX), both tolled.

KLIA Ekspres or car?
The KLIA Ekspres train runs non-stop from both terminals to KL Sentral in about 28 to 33 minutes, and the slower KLIA Transit stops at Putrajaya and Bandar Tasik Selatan. It is fast and reliable. From KL Sentral, though, most hotels in KLCC or Bukit Bintang are a further taxi, monorail or LRT ride away. Travellers with luggage, families and anyone going to Mont Kiara, Damansara or Petaling Jaya usually save effort with a car.
The right vehicle for the trip
A single traveller heading to a KLCC hotel is comfortable in a Standard Sedan (2 passengers, 2 bags), and senior executives often prefer the Luxury Executive Sedan (S-Class class) for the longer drive. The Executive First Class Sedan (Maybach) suits principals and royal or ministerial guests' staff programmes. Putrajaya, government and corporate visits
Putrajaya is home to the Prime Minister's Office and most federal ministries, and it is closer to KLIA than central Kuala Lumpur. Government and diplomatic visitors and corporate travellers often go straight from the airport to meetings there. Multi-vehicle delegations are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing, and corporate accounts offer monthly invoicing, cost centres and traveller profiles.
Formula One heritage, events and the Sepang circuit
The Sepang International Circuit is only a few minutes from KLIA and hosts MotoGP, usually in October or November, plus other motorsport events. Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre beside the Twin Towers and the MITEC exhibition centre host large conferences. Event transportation programmes are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing.
Cruise passengers and Port Klang
Cruise ships calling at Kuala Lumpur dock at Port Klang, west of the city. Travellers flying into KLIA to join a ship can go straight to the port in 60 to 90 minutes; book the pickup against your flight and add the ship's name and boarding time in the notes.
Subang airport and private jets

Weather and rush hours
Kuala Lumpur is hot and humid year-round, with heavy afternoon thunderstorms, especially around the monsoon transitions in April and October to November. The expressways into the city are busiest from about 7 to 9.30 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. on weekdays. Allow extra time for departures at those hours.

Departures and day trips
For a departure, allow at least 75 to 90 minutes of driving from KLCC in the weekday evening peak, and tell us whether your airline uses Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 so the chauffeur drops you at the right building. KLIA also works as a starting point for trips out of the city: Malacca is roughly 90 minutes to two hours south by road, and Genting Highlands about the same distance to the north-east. Both are booked as fixed-fare intercity transfers.
