Chauffeur service across Spain: what to know

Spain's airports are run by Aena. Madrid-Barajas (MAD) has four terminals: T1, T2 and T3 are grouped together, while T4 and its satellite T4S are a separate building several minutes' drive away. The drive to the Castellana business district usually takes 20 to 40 minutes. Barcelona-El Prat (BCN) has T1 and T2, about 15 km from Passeig de Gràcia. Málaga (AGP) serves Marbella and the Costa del Sol. On the islands, the main airports are Palma (PMI), Ibiza (IBZ), Tenerife South (TFS) and North (TFN), and Gran Canaria (LPA). Valencia, Seville and Bilbao have busy regional airports.

Pickup is at each terminal's designated area for pre-booked cars. A meeting inside the arrivals hall with a name board is an add-on, available in selected locations. The fare shown in the booker is fixed for the address, date, time and vehicle, and flight tracking means the chauffeur works to the real landing time. Outside the home dispatch area, a vetted local affiliate drives the trip, and the confirmation names the operator and the chauffeur. Spain applies Schengen rules. Non-EU arrivals register under the EU Entry/Exit System at their first Schengen border. Visa questions are handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Drives worth booking between Spanish cities

Emission zones, tolls, heat and the festival calendar

Spain drives on the right. Spanish law requires larger cities to set up low-emission zones (ZBE) that allow cars in according to their DGT environmental label. Madrid and Barcelona have the most developed zones, and Barcelona's covers the area inside its ring roads on weekdays. Several motorways stopped charging tolls when their concessions ended, including the AP-7 through Catalonia and the AP-4 between Seville and Cádiz. Other motorways still charge, including the coastal AP-7 toll section west of Málaga. July and August bring heat above 40°C inland, and the roads to the coast fill on Friday evenings.

FITUR, the travel trade fair, fills Madrid in January. Mobile World Congress takes over Barcelona in late February or early March. Valencia's Fallas festival runs from 15 to 19 March. Holy Week (Semana Santa) falls in March or April, and Seville's April Fair usually follows two weeks after Easter. Pamplona's San Fermín runs from 6 to 14 July, and Ibiza's club season runs from about May to October. Spain.info publishes current dates.

Selecting the right vehicle

For a single executive moving between Barajas and the AZCA towers, a Luxury Executive Sedan is the usual choice. Business capitals and holiday coasts

Most business trips in Madrid run between the Paseo de la Castellana, the IFEMA exhibition centre near Barajas, and the ministries around the city centre. In Barcelona, trips centre on the 22@ technology district, the Fira de Barcelona halls and the cruise port, one of the busiest in the Mediterranean. Leisure travel goes to Marbella, the Balearics through Ibiza's private aviation terminal, and the Canary Islands in winter. Seville, Valencia and Bilbao generate steady trade-fair and museum traffic, and the Guggenheim makes Bilbao a regular stop on northern itineraries.
