Child seats are free on request, which matters for families heading straight to ski school.

Which vehicle for mountain roads?
From November to April, choose a vehicle with all-wheel or four-wheel drive and room for skis. In summer, the choice is about headcount and luggage. From the fleet:

The network's age rule applies: four model years or newer, with Rolls-Royce, Maybach and Bentley accepted up to seven. Stretch limousines are rarely practical on Aspen's snowy streets; a partner can supply one in summer.
Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE)
ASE, also called Sardy Field, lies about 3 miles north-west of downtown Aspen on Highway 82, and the drive to the core takes 8 to 15 minutes. At 7,820 feet with mountains close on three sides, it is a demanding airport, and winter storms, low cloud and evening wind can cause delays, diversions or cancellations. Commercial flights connect mainly through Denver and other large hubs.
The terminal is small, so pickup is quick. Your chauffeur collects at the airport's designated commercial pickup area outside the terminal, which is the standard service. A name-board meet inside the terminal is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations. Private aviation at Aspen, and customs
ASE is one of the busiest business-aviation airports in the Rockies in ski season and in the summer festival weeks. Atlantic Aviation runs the FBO, and the chauffeur meets the aircraft once ramp access is confirmed; give the tail number when you book. See Aspen ASE private aviation.
Aspen has no customs facility. Aircraft arriving from outside the United States must first clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection at a port of entry, most often Eagle County Regional or Denver, and then reposition to Aspen. Commercial passengers from abroad clear customs at their first U.S. airport, usually Denver or a coastal hub, before the domestic connection.
When flights divert: Eagle County (EGE) and other airports
Eagle County Regional Airport, near Gypsum, is about 70 miles from Aspen, usually 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes via I-70 west to Glenwood Springs and Highway 82 up the valley. It is both the usual diversion airport and a common alternative for flights and private jets; see EGE and Vail Eagle FBO. Rifle Garfield County Airport, roughly 70 miles away, and Grand Junction, about 130 miles away, are occasional alternates.
Denver International to Aspen
Denver International is about 220 miles from Aspen by the year-round route: I-70 west over Vail Pass and through Glenwood Canyon, then Highway 82 from Glenwood Springs. Allow 3.5 to 4.5 hours in good conditions and more in snow. From late May to autumn, the shorter route over Independence Pass on Highway 82 is open, about 160 miles and 3.5 to 4 hours, but the pass closes for winter, usually in late October or November, and it reopens around the Thursday before Memorial Day. Vehicles longer than 35 feet are banned on the pass at all times, so Sprinters and coaches use I-70. Seasonal information is published by CDOT.
Winter driving law in Colorado
Traffic drives on the right. From September 1 to May 31, Colorado's traction law can be activated on I-70 in the mountains, requiring adequate tyres or AWD/4WD; the chain law can follow in severe storms. Glenwood Canyon on I-70 sometimes closes for rockfall or accidents, and detours are long. Highway 82 into Aspen has one main entrance, with the roundabout at Maroon Creek Road and the "S-curves" at the edge of town, and it backs up at the start and end of the ski day. Aspen's neighbourhoods, mountains and hotels

- Red Mountain and Castle Creek. Residences above town with steep, winding drives.
- Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk. Two of the four ski areas, each a few minutes from town.
- Snowmass Village. The largest ski area and the Viceroy Snowmass, about 9 miles from Aspen.
- Woody Creek, Basalt and Carbondale. Down-valley communities where many staff and second-home owners live.

- Late November to mid-April: Ski season on Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass.
- January: Winter X Games at Buttermilk, usually in January, and Winterskol, the town's winter carnival.
- June: The Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, usually in June, and the Aspen Ideas Festival, usually in late June.
- Late June to August: The Aspen Music Festival and School, with concerts at the Benedict Music Tent.
- July: The Aspen Security Forum.
- Labor Day weekend: The JAS Labor Day Experience in Snowmass.
- Summer: Maroon Bells access on Maroon Creek Road is managed with reservations and shuttles in season; check the White River National Forest information before planning a private car.

Rail and intercity links
The nearest passenger rail is Glenwood Springs, about 41 miles and 50 to 65 minutes away, where Amtrak's California Zephyr stops once a day in each direction between Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area. A chauffeur can meet the train, which often runs late in winter. Train details are on Amtrak.

Ski-day logistics: gear, bases and pickup points
Each of the four ski areas has a different base, and choosing the right drop-off saves time in ski boots. Aspen Mountain loads from the Silver Queen Gondola in the downtown core, so most guests staying in town walk. Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk are a few minutes out on Maroon Creek Road and Highway 82, and both have drop-off loops near the base. Snowmass has several arrival points around the Snowmass Mall and Base Village; tell us which lodge or ski school meeting place you need. For a family ski day, a morning drop and an afternoon pickup can be booked as two short transfers, or as one hourly booking if you want the car to wait between stops.
Tell us the number of skis, snowboards and boot bags when you book. A ski bag is long, and four of them fill the cargo area of an executive SUV, so larger groups do better with a Standard Black SUV or a Sprinter Van. The chauffeur handles loading at the curb.
Summer in the Roaring Fork Valley
Summer is almost as busy as winter. Festival guests move between the Aspen Institute, the Benedict Music Tent, the Wheeler Opera House and dinners in town, often several times in one day, which suits a car held by the hour. Weekend trips down-valley to Basalt, Carbondale and the hot springs at Glenwood Springs are easy half-day plans, and Independence Pass, when it is open, makes a scenic drive towards Twin Lakes. Afternoon thunderstorms are frequent in July and August, so set outdoor pickup times with a little slack.
Altitude and comfort
Aspen sits at about 7,900 feet. Visitors arriving from sea level often feel the altitude on the first day, so drink water and allow time. Tell the desk if a traveller needs extra help with luggage or a slower pace; the chauffeur handles ski bags and cases at the curb.
