Aspen/Pitkin County Airport, known locally as Sardy Field, is only about three miles from downtown Aspen, so the ride itself is short. The ASE terminal and airfield
ASE has a single small terminal with one baggage claim area, and it handles regional jets and a large volume of private aircraft on one runway at nearly 7,800 feet above sea level. The approach through the Roaring Fork Valley is demanding, and aircraft size is restricted, which is why commercial service uses regional jets. Pickup at Aspen airport
Standard pickup is curbside in the commercial ground transportation area outside the terminal. Contact the chauffeur once you have your bags, including ski tubes from the oversize area, and they will pull into the commercial lane. The chauffeur does not come into the terminal by default. A name-board greeting inside is an add-on, meet and greet; add-ons are only available in selected locations.

Highway 82 over Independence Pass is the short summer route to Denver, but it is closed every winter, normally from November until late May, and has a vehicle-length limit. The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority runs frequent buses along Highway 82 with a stop at the airport, useful for light travellers.
Diversions to Eagle, Grand Junction or Denver
Wind, low cloud and snow cause ASE flights to divert more often than at lower airports, usually to Eagle County, Grand Junction or Denver. When that happens, call the 24/7 desk. The pickup can be moved to Eagle County or Denver, and the new fare is shown to you before anything is changed. Check COtrip for road conditions; the Glenwood Canyon section of I-70 closes during rockfall or mudslide events.

Aspen's calendar
Winter runs from Thanksgiving to mid-April, with the busiest weeks at Christmas, New Year and Presidents' Day. The Winter X Games are usually held at Buttermilk in January. Summer brings the Aspen Music Festival (usually late June to August), the Food & Wine Classic (usually June) and the Aspen Ideas Festival (usually late June). These weeks sell out vehicles early, so book as soon as flights are fixed, and send the chalet access details and a contact on site if the property manager will be letting you in; groups can have arrivals planned by a coordinator through event transportation.
Waiting, delays and cancellations
Included waiting at ASE is 30 minutes from the actual landing on domestic flights, and after that waiting is billed in 15-minute blocks. Cancel more than 72 hours ahead at no charge; within 72 hours the charge is 10%, within 48 hours 50%, and within 24 hours or on a no-show 100%.
Private aviation and family office travel
