Chauffeur service across Jordan: what to know

Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) is about 35 km south of Amman, and the transfer along the Airport Road to hotels in Abdoun, Shmeisani or the Abdali district usually takes 35-50 minutes. It is Jordan's main gateway; the smaller Amman Civil Airport at Marka handles limited regional flights, and King Hussein International (AQJ) at Aqaba serves the Red Sea coast. Many visitors also cross by land at the King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge or reach Aqaba by sea.

At Queen Alia the chauffeur tracks your flight and waits at the designated pickup area, with 60 minutes included from actual landing on international flights. If you prefer to be met inside the terminal with your name on a board, book the meet-and-greet add-on; add-ons are only available in selected locations. Main routes by road

Many visitors follow a loop: Amman and Jerash, then the Dead Sea, south along the King's Highway to Madaba, Mount Nebo and Kerak Castle, a night or two at Petra, a night in Wadi Rum, and an exit via Aqaba or back up the Desert Highway. A chauffeur can drive the whole circuit or single legs, and an hourly booking works well for the Madaba and Mount Nebo stretch, where stops come every few kilometres.

Driving realities and the Jordanian year

Jordan drives on the right. Amman is built across hills, with roundabouts known as circles (First Circle to Eighth Circle) that anchor directions, and traffic around Abdali, Sweifieh and the Seventh and Eighth Circles builds at rush hour. The Desert Highway to Petra and Aqaba is fast and straight, with police speed checks, while the King's Highway is slower and scenic. The descent to the Dead Sea drops to about 400 metres below sea level. Gratuity and any airport parking fee are charged at the actual cost on top of the fare.

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons for Petra and Wadi Rum; summer is very hot in the desert, and winter can bring snow to Amman. During Ramadan, which moves about 11 days earlier each year, traffic peaks just before sunset and business hours shorten. The Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts is usually held in the summer, and Petra by Night runs on set evenings each week.
