HNL terminals and where your car waits
Daniel K. Inouye International Airport has two main passenger terminals and a commuter terminal. Terminal 1 handles most interisland traffic, and Terminal 2 handles most mainland and all international arrivals. International passengers clear US Customs and Border Protection in Terminal 2, then exit to baggage claim.
Pickup for pre-arranged cars happens at the airport's designated pre-arranged ground transportation areas on the ground level. At Terminal 2 those include the median across from Baggage Claim 16 and the east end outside Baggage Claim 31; at Terminal 1 the area is at the makai (ocean) end of the ground level. Rail, buses and the airport
Honolulu has no intercity train. The Skyline elevated metro, run by the city, reached the airport in October 2025 with a station at Lelepaua, linking Pearl Harbor, Aloha Stadium and the west side; the downtown section is still under construction, according to HART. For travellers with luggage heading to Waikiki, a car remains the direct option.
Private jets and neighbour island connections
Business aircraft use general aviation facilities at HNL and at Kalaeloa Airport on the former Barbers Point naval air station, which is convenient for Ko Olina. The H-1 between Pearl City and downtown is heavily congested at weekday peaks, and the Pali and Likelike highways over the Koolau range can close in heavy rain. HNL is the first US entry point for many flights from Japan, Korea, Australia and the South Pacific.
