Pier 2 or Aloha Tower: which berth is yours?
Honolulu Harbor has two passenger areas that the state's Hawaii Department of Transportation Harbors Division runs as public facilities.
- Pier 2 Cruise Terminal, at the Kakaako end of the harbor, is the base for Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America, the US-flagged ship that sails a week-long inter-island loop from Honolulu. Its turnaround morning is the busiest on the waterfront.
- Piers 10 and 11 at Aloha Tower, beside the Aloha Tower Marketplace downtown, handle most visiting ships on transpacific, Hawaii and South Pacific itineraries.
They are about a mile apart along Nimitz Highway, but the drop-off lanes are separate. Give the chauffeur the pier printed on your documents.

Nimitz Highway and the H-1 freeway are the main arteries. Weekday afternoons westbound toward the airport and Ewa are the slowest part of the day.
Airport to ship: arriving at HNL
Flying in on sailing day is common for Pride of America passengers. Add the flight number and the chauffeur tracks it: 30 minutes of waiting are included on flights from the mainland, which are domestic, and 60 minutes on international arrivals, counted from the actual landing. Pickup is curbside at the pre-arranged area the airport designates outside baggage claim. Embarkation at the pier

Island tours on a port day
Visiting ships often give a full day in Honolulu. Three-hour minimum loops include Diamond Head and the Kahala coast; the Pali Lookout and windward Oahu; and a circle-island drive to the North Shore, which fills most of a day. Plan to be back at the pier at least an hour before all-aboard.
Before and after the cruise
A night in Waikiki before sailing is the classic buffer against inter-island or mainland delays. Ko Olina suits families who want a quieter base after the voyage. Resort transfers beyond Waikiki
Ko Olina on the leeward coast, 30 to 50 minutes from the harbor, has several large resort hotels and calm lagoon beaches that suit families after a week at sea. Kahala, east of Diamond Head, is quieter and closer to town. Both are simple fixed-fare runs from the pier, and a stop at Ala Moana Center or a grocery store on the way can be added when you book. Turtle Bay on the North Shore is further, about an hour and a quarter, and the drive across the central plateau past the old plantation lands is part of the appeal.
