Austin-Bergstrom International is about 8 miles southeast of downtown on the site of the former Bergstrom Air Force Base. Scheduled flights use the Barbara Jordan Terminal; the small South Terminal closed in 2024 to make room for expansion. The airport is in the middle of a multi-year rebuild, with new gates, roads and a larger terminal planned, so walking routes change from time to time.

The convention centre is being rebuilt

Rail links and the regional corridor
Amtrak's Texas Eagle calls at the Austin station just west of downtown, on the route between San Antonio and Chicago via Dallas. Tolls, I-35 and summer heat
Driving is on the right. Interstate 35 runs straight through the middle of the city and is under a long reconstruction that lowers the main lanes through downtown, with lane closures and ramp changes that can add 20 to 40 minutes at peak times. Austin also has a network of toll roads: SH 130, SH 45, 183A, the MoPac Express Lanes and the 183 toll lanes toward the airport.
