Lynden Pindling International: arrivals, pickup and US preclearance
Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) is on the western side of New Providence, about 16 km from downtown Nassau. It has separate buildings for US departures, international departures and arrivals. All arriving passengers, including those from the United States, clear Bahamas Immigration and Customs on arrival and complete a customs declaration; you need a valid passport. The airport's official site has current terminal information.
Standard pickup is curbside at the designated area for pre-arranged transport outside the arrivals hall. A name-board meet and greet inside the hall is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations; the engine shows whether it can be added. On the way home, flights to the United States clear US Customs and Border Protection preclearance in Nassau before boarding, so you land in the US as a domestic passenger. That extra step is why we suggest reaching LPIA about three hours before a US-bound departure, more in spring break and holiday weeks.

Nassau Cruise Port at Prince George Wharf
The Nassau Cruise Port at Prince George Wharf, on Bay Street in the heart of downtown, is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Caribbean region and can berth several large ships at once. The redeveloped waterfront has a terminal building and a marketplace between the ships and the street. On heavy ship days, Bay Street and the roads around Rawson Square fill with taxis, jitneys and pedestrians, so the chauffeur waits at the designated transport area and messages you the exact point. From the wharf, Paradise Island is 10 to 20 minutes across the bridge, Cable Beach is 15 to 25 minutes and the airport 25 to 40 minutes. Every affiliate vehicle is four model years old or younger; Rolls-Royce, Maybach and Bentley are accepted up to seven. Vehicle choice on New Providence is often about luggage rather than passengers: dive gear, golf clubs and holiday cases fill a sedan quickly.
Where on New Providence: resorts, residences and downtown
Cable Beach on the north shore is home to the Baha Mar resort complex, with the Grand Hyatt, Rosewood and SLS, plus a convention centre used for conferences and gala dinners. Paradise Island, across the harbour, has the Atlantis resort towers and The Ocean Club. Downtown Nassau has Bay Street, Parliament Square, the government ministries, the banks and law firms of the financial centre, and historic hotels such as Graycliff. Lyford Cay in the far west is a gated private community; the gatehouse needs your name and house in advance, so include them in the booking. Albany, on the south coast, is a marina and golf community. Old Fort Bay, Sandyport and Love Beach are residential areas along the western shore.

Driving in Nassau: left-hand traffic and the bridges
Traffic in the Bahamas drives on the left, though many vehicles are imported with left-hand drive. Two bridges link Nassau with Paradise Island: the toll is charged only on the way onto the island. Roads are narrow in places, roundabouts are common, and West Bay Street along the north shore is the main route between the airport, Cable Beach and downtown. Rush hour around downtown and the Paradise Island bridges runs roughly 7 to 9 am and 4 to 6 pm on weekdays, and cruise days add pressure on Bay Street. The Bahamian dollar is at par with the US dollar, which circulates freely.
Weddings, galas and resort events
Destination weddings are a large part of Nassau's calendar, from beach ceremonies at Cable Beach and Paradise Island to receptions in historic downtown buildings. A wedding day often needs a Rolls-Royce or stretch limousine for the couple, a Sprinter or two for the wedding party, and shuttles for guests between hotels and the venue. Multi-vehicle programmes like this are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing, with a timetable shared in advance. Yachts, marinas and villa arrivals
Nassau and Paradise Island have several marinas, including the Atlantis Marina and the marinas on the harbour side of Paradise Island, and Albany and Lyford Cay have their own private marinas. Charter guests often fly in, transfer to the boat and return a week later; tell us the marina and berth, and the chauffeur can load provisions and luggage at the dock gate where marina rules allow. Villa rentals in the west and east of the island often have gated drives or unmarked entrances, so send a pin or gate code in the booking notes.
Timing your departure from LPIA
Because US-bound flights clear preclearance in Nassau, departures take longer than many visitors expect. From Paradise Island or eastern Nassau, leave about three hours 45 minutes before a US flight in peak weeks, allowing for the bridge and West Bay Street traffic. From Cable Beach or Lyford Cay, three hours 15 minutes is usually enough. Flights to Canada, Europe and the Caribbean leave from the international departures building and need less time at the checkpoint, though airlines still recommend arriving well ahead. If you are flying on a Saturday or Sunday in March or April, add another 30 minutes.
Out Islands and trips beyond New Providence
New Providence has no road links to other islands, so journeys to Exuma, Eleuthera, Harbour Island or Abaco go by domestic flight, charter or ferry. Ferries leave from the Potter's Cay dock area under the Paradise Island bridges; our chauffeurs can drop you there or at the Odyssey FBO for a charter.
