Sao Paulo is Latin America's largest business city, and most requests are airport transfers and corporate car service: a car and chauffeur on standby between meetings on Faria Lima, Paulista and Berrini. Investor days are planned under financial roadshows.

Guarulhos International (GRU): terminals and pickup

Guarulhos is the main international gateway, in the neighbouring city of Guarulhos about 25 km north-east of central Sao Paulo. It has three passenger terminals. Terminal 1, the smallest, is used for Azul domestic flights; Terminal 2, the oldest and largest, is the main base for LATAM and its partners; Terminal 3 handles most foreign international airlines. Since February 2026 an automated people mover links the terminals with the Aeroporto-Guarulhos station on CPTM Line 13. The operator publishes terminal and airline information at GRU Airport.

Standard pickup is curbside at the terminal's designated area for pre-arranged vehicles. A meet and greet in arrivals with a name board is an add-on; add-ons are only available in selected locations, and the engine shows whether it is offered at your terminal. Enter the flight number so the chauffeur goes to the correct terminal, since T1 is not connected to T2 and T3 on foot.

The road into the city runs along the Rodovia Hélio Smidt, the Ayrton Senna highway and the Marginal Tietê, which is one of the most congested corridors in the country at peak times.

Congonhas (CGH): the city airport

Congonhas is inside the city in the south zone, near Campo Belo and Moema, roughly 8 to 10 km from Faria Lima. It is a domestic airport with frequent flights to Rio de Janeiro's Santos Dumont (the "ponte aérea"), Brasília, Belo Horizonte and other Brazilian cities. From CGH, Itaim Bibi and Vila Olímpia are usually 20 to 40 minutes away and Paulista 25 to 45 minutes. Pickups are at the designated pre-arranged vehicle area outside arrivals, with 30 minutes of included waiting from the actual landing.

Viracopos (VCP) and business aviation

Viracopos International in Campinas, about 95 to 100 km north-west of the city, is Azul's main hub and a large cargo airport. By road via the Bandeirantes or Anhanguera highways, allow 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours to Faria Lima. Business aviation into Sao Paulo uses Campo de Marte in the north zone, Guarulhos and Jundiaí, among other fields; jet-side pickups are arranged through private aviation and FBO and confirmed in writing. Helicopter transfers are common in Sao Paulo, and many office towers have helipads; we can meet a helicopter at its landing point for the road leg.

Rodízio: Sao Paulo's plate restriction

The city's vehicle rotation scheme, known as rodízio, bars cars from the "centro expandido" (the expanded centre inside the Marginal Pinheiros, Marginal Tietê and the Minianel Viário) during weekday peak hours according to the last digit of the licence plate. It is enforced by camera between 7:00 and 10:00 and between 17:00 and 20:00, Monday to Friday, and is managed by the city traffic company, CET.

For you, this is invisible: the dispatch desk allocates a vehicle whose plate is allowed in the centre at your pickup time, so an 8:30 meeting on Paulista is never at risk because of the day of the week. The rule also shapes traffic: roads outside the rotation zone fill up in the restricted hours, which is one reason airport drive times vary so much.

Every affiliate vehicle is four model years old or younger; only Rolls-Royce, Maybach and Bentley are accepted up to seven. Armoured cars, known in Brazil as "blindados", are a normal choice for executives and families in Sao Paulo, and we provide them through partners after a risk assessment.

Business districts and neighbourhoods

• Avenida Faria Lima and Itaim Bibi: the main financial district, home to banks, asset managers and law firms.
• Vila Olímpia and Brooklin/Berrini: technology and multinational offices along the Marginal Pinheiros and Avenida Engenheiro Luís Carlos Berrini.
• Avenida Paulista: the symbolic avenue of offices, museums including MASP, and the Sunday closure for pedestrians and cyclists.
• Jardins: Oscar Freire shopping, restaurants and residential streets beside Paulista.
• Pinheiros and Vila Madalena: restaurants, bars and creative businesses.
• Centro: the historic core with the Theatro Municipal, Sé Cathedral and the Sala São Paulo concert hall.
• Morumbi and Alphaville: residential areas and, in Alphaville, a large corporate park in Barueri to the west.

Hotels, venues and exhibition centres

Pickups most often start at the Palácio Tangará near Burle Marx Park, the Rosewood São Paulo in the Cidade Matarazzo complex, the Hotel Fasano in Jardins, the Hotel Unique, the Four Seasons Hotel São Paulo at Nações Unidas, the Grand Hyatt on Avenida das Nações Unidas and the Renaissance in Jardins.

Major exhibitions and conferences are held at São Paulo Expo on the Imigrantes highway, the Distrito Anhembi and Expo Center Norte in the north zone and the Transamerica Expo Center in Santo Amaro. Football is played at Allianz Parque, the Neo Química Arena and the Morumbi stadium. The Autódromo José Carlos Pace at Interlagos hosts the Formula 1 São Paulo Grand Prix and the Lollapalooza Brasil festival. Event transportation handles drop-off plans and exit queues for all of them.

Events through the year

• February or March: Carnival, with samba school parades at the Anhembi Sambódromo and street blocos across the city.
• March: Lollapalooza Brasil at Interlagos.
• June: the São Paulo Pride Parade on Avenida Paulista, one of the largest in the world, usually on a Sunday.
• Usually November: the Formula 1 São Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos, the busiest weekend of the year for cars and helicopters in the south zone.
• 31 December: the São Silvestre road race and New Year's Eve on Paulista.

Intercity routes from Sao Paulo

Brazil's best motorways radiate from Sao Paulo, and most are tolled concession roads.

The descent to Santos on the Imigrantes and Anchieta highways runs down the Serra do Mar escarpment and is one of the region's main routes to the coast and to the cruise terminal in Santos, busiest from November to April. Driving and traffic realities

Brazil drives on the right. Beyond rodízio, the things that shape a Sao Paulo journey are:

• The two riverside expressways, Marginal Tietê and Marginal Pinheiros, carry most cross-city traffic and slow sharply in rush hour and heavy rain.
• Summer storms from December to March can flood low-lying roads within minutes; the chauffeur follows live traffic data and reroutes.
• Speed cameras are everywhere, and the limit on the Marginais' express lanes is typically 70 km/h, lower on city streets.
• Avenida Paulista closes to cars on Sundays and public holidays, so pickups there move to side streets.

Arriving in Brazil: visas and entry

Since 10 April 2025, citizens of the United States, Canada and Australia need a visa to visit Brazil, obtained online as an e-visa before travel; many other nationalities, including most EU citizens and UK citizens, remain visa-exempt for short stays. Check the rules for your passport on the official e-visa portal of the Government of Brazil and with your airline. Immigration at GRU can take time when several long-haul flights land together, and the 60 minutes of included waiting starts at actual landing.

Personal security in Sao Paulo

The practical risk for visitors is opportunistic theft, especially phone snatching near traffic lights and on busy pavements. Keep windows up and phones low while stopped, carry only what you need, and let the chauffeur pick you up at the building entrance rather than a street corner.
