Brasilia International Airport (BSB): how pickup works
Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport sits on the southern side of the city, about 11 km from the Esplanada. It has one main passenger terminal with two piers. Domestic traffic dominates, since BSB is one of the busiest connecting hubs in Brazil, and international service is limited to a handful of routes. International arrivals pass Federal Police passport control and Receita Federal customs before reaching the public hall.
Pickup for pre-arranged cars is at the designated commercial pickup area on the ground floor (arrivals level). BSB also runs the Praca Pick-Up complex to keep app cars and vans away from the terminal kerb, and your chauffeur messages you with the exact spot and vehicle plate once you land. How the Plano Piloto is laid out, and why addresses matter
Lucio Costa's plan gives Brasilia the outline of an aircraft. The Eixo Monumental runs east to west through the middle, with the Praca dos Tres Poderes, the National Congress and the Palacio do Planalto at the eastern end and the TV Tower further west. The curved Eixo Rodoviario crosses it and carries the residential superquadras of the Asa Sul and Asa Norte. Addresses are codes rather than street names: SHS is the southern hotel sector, SES the southern embassy sector, SQN a northern superquadra. Give the full code when you book and the chauffeur goes to the right building, which saves real time in a city built for cars and not for asking directions.
Ministries, Congress and the embassy sectors
Most business trips here start or end at a government building. Security at the Congress, the ministries and the Planalto means drop-off is at the entrance control point named on your invitation, and the car usually waits in a nearby sector rather than at the door. Hotels, the convention centre and venues
The Setor Hoteleiro Sul and Norte hold most business hotels, a short run from the Esplanada. Lakeside properties on the Setor de Hoteis e Turismo Norte, such as the Royal Tulip Brasilia Alvorada near the Palacio da Alvorada, are about 20 minutes further out. The Centro de Convencoes Ulysses Guimaraes, on the Eixo Monumental, hosts congresses and trade events, and the Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha next to it holds football matches and large concerts. - May to September: the dry season, with clear skies and very low humidity; it is the busiest period for conferences.
- September 7: Independence Day, with a parade on the Esplanada and road closures along the Eixo Monumental.
- October to December: rains return; year-end political calendars fill the hotel sectors.
Vehicles for Brasilia
A Standard Sedan suits one or two passengers heading to a ministry. An executive SUV is the common choice for senior visitors and for three passengers with luggage. Day trips and intercity transfers
Pirenopolis, a colonial town in Goias with waterfalls nearby, is the classic weekend drive. The Chapada dos Veadeiros national park around Alto Paraiso and Sao Jorge suits a two-day trip with an early start. Goiania is a straightforward business transfer on the BR-060. Driving in Brasilia
Traffic drives on the right. The city relies on fast arterial roads, cloverleaf junctions known locally as tesourinhas, and few traffic lights, so journeys are quick outside the peaks. Speed cameras are everywhere and limits are enforced. Pedestrian crossings are respected by law: drivers stop when someone signals at a crossing. Rain from October to March brings short, heavy storms that slow the Eixo Rodoviario for an hour or two.
Entry rules for arrivals in 2026
Since April 10, 2025, citizens of the United States, Canada and Australia need a Brazilian e-visa for tourism or business visits, and that rule remains in force in 2026. Most European and many Latin American passport holders enter visa-free. Check your own case with the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before travel. Cancellation
Cancel a Brasilia trip more than 72 hours before pickup at no charge. Within 72 hours the charge is 10%, within 48 hours 50%, and within 24 hours or on a no-show 100%. Because BSB arrivals are tracked, a late plane into Brasilia is never counted as a no-show.
