Boeing Field and private aviation
King County International Airport, known as Boeing Field, is about 5 miles south of downtown and is the usual choice for private jets visiting the city, 15 to 25 minutes from downtown hotels. Cruise days: Bell Street and Smith Cove
Seattle is the main US homeport for Alaska cruises. The season usually runs from late April or May into October, and on a busy Saturday or Sunday several ships turn around the same day. The Port of Seattle cruise terminals are in two places:
- Bell Street Cruise Terminal at Pier 66 on the downtown waterfront, walking distance from the Pike Place Market hotels but reached by car along Alaskan Way.
- Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91 in the Interbay area below Magnolia, about 3 miles north of downtown, where two ships can berth at once.

King Street Station and the ferries
King Street Station in Pioneer Square is served by Amtrak Cascades trains to Portland and Vancouver, British Columbia, as well as the Coast Starlight to California and the Empire Builder to Chicago. Trips into Canada cross at Blaine, either at the Peace Arch crossing on I-5 or the Pacific Highway crossing. Every passenger needs a passport or another accepted travel document, and wait times at the border range from a few minutes to over an hour on holiday weekends. Driving realities in Seattle
Cars drive on the right. I-5 through downtown and across the Ship Canal Bridge is slow at peak hours, and the Eastside commute on I-405 and SR 520 is heavy in both directions. SR 520 and the SR 99 tunnel are tolled electronically; details are on the Washington State Department of Transportation site. Downtown streets are steep, many are one way, and bus lanes on Third Avenue restrict turns at peak times. Rain is frequent from October to May but rarely stops traffic; snow is uncommon but can close hills quickly, and dispatch reroutes when it does.
