Ted Stevens Anchorage International (ANC)
ANC lies about five miles southwest of downtown, and the drive usually takes 10 to 20 minutes on International Airport Road and Minnesota Drive. The airport has two passenger terminals linked by a walkway and shuttle:
- South Terminal handles domestic flights, which means nearly all passengers from the Lower 48 and from Alaska's rural hubs. Ground transportation leaves from Level 1, the baggage claim level.
- North Terminal handles international and seasonal charter flights; ground transportation leaves from outside the terminal lobby.
Your chauffeur waits at the designated pre-arranged ground transportation area for the right terminal and texts the vehicle details when you land. Both drives follow the Seward Highway along Turnagain Arm, one of the most scenic roads in the state and one that demands patience: two lanes for long stretches, sightseers stopping for Dall sheep and beluga whales, and summer road works. Whittier is reached only through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, a single-lane tunnel shared with the Alaska Railroad. Downtown hotels, the convention centre and districts
Downtown Anchorage is a grid between Ship Creek and the Delaney Park Strip. The Hotel Captain Cook, the Anchorage Marriott Downtown and the Hilton Anchorage are the large business hotels, and the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center and the older Egan Center host conventions and trade events. The Alaska Center for the Performing Arts faces Town Square. Midtown holds offices and shopping along the New Seward Highway, while Spenard, the Lake Hood area and the hillside neighbourhoods toward the Chugach Mountains complete the city. - Late February to early March: Fur Rendezvous, the city's winter festival.

Driving realities
Alaska drives on the right. Winter lasts from about October to April, with snow, ice and short daylight, and studded tyres are permitted in season. Moose wander onto city streets and highways all year, which is one reason chauffeurs keep speeds down after dark.
