Chauffeur service across Qatar: what to know

Hamad International Airport (DOH) is Qatar's only commercial airport and one of the world's largest transfer hubs. It has a single passenger terminal on reclaimed land about 15 km south-east of West Bay. The drive to the West Bay towers takes 20 to 30 minutes, and Msheireb and Souq Waqif are about 15 to 25 minutes away. Business aviation uses a separate executive terminal on the same airfield. Pickup is at the airport's designated area for pre-booked cars. Having someone waiting in the hall with your name on a board costs extra, and add-ons are only available in selected locations. Flights are tracked and the chauffeur is timed to the actual landing, with 60 minutes of waiting included on international arrivals. Journeys from Doha

Traffic, heat and the event season

Qatar drives on the right, and radar enforcement is strict on the expressways. Most of Doha's old roundabouts have been replaced with signalled junctions and underpasses, and traffic peaks on the Corniche, Al Shamal Road and the Lusail Expressway around 7:00 to 8:30 and 13:00 to 15:00. Qatar's working week runs Sunday to Thursday. During Ramadan, office hours shorten and the roads get busiest just before sunset. From June to September, afternoon temperatures regularly exceed 40°C.

The main event season runs from October to April. The Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix at Lusail International Circuit is usually held in late November or early December. Web Summit Qatar and the men's and women's tennis opens take place in February. The Doha Forum is held in December, and Qatar National Day is 18 December. Cruise ships call at the Grand Cruise Terminal at Old Doha Port from about November to April.

The right class for each trip

Business districts and destinations

In Doha, corporate and government meetings are concentrated in West Bay, the Qatar Financial Centre and Lusail's Marina district. The Qatar National Convention Centre in Education City and the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center in West Bay host large conferences. Jets use the executive terminal at Hamad, and scheduled flights arrive at DOH. Doha also sees many long-layover passengers who leave the airport for a few hours to see the Corniche and Souq Waqif before an onward flight. For those trips, an hourly booking of at least 3 hours keeps the car waiting, and the return is timed to the check-in cut-off. Al Wakrah, 20 km south, has a restored waterfront souq.
