Booking a chauffeur in Doha: the short version

Hamad International Airport (DOH): arrivals and pickup
Hamad International is Doha's airport and the hub of Qatar Airways, a single large terminal on reclaimed land on the city's eastern edge, expanded with new concourses in 2022. Because so many passengers are in transit, the arrivals flow is simpler than the size suggests: passengers ending their journey in Doha go through immigration, collect bags and exit into one arrivals hall.
Standard pickup is at the area designated for pre-booked cars and limousines outside arrivals; the confirmation gives the exact point and the chauffeur's mobile number. A name-board meet and greet in the arrivals hall is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations. The chauffeur is timed to the actual landing through flight tracking. How long does it take to get from the airport to West Bay, Msheireb and Lusail?
Doha's road network was rebuilt ahead of the 2022 World Cup and journeys are usually quick, though the Corniche and the roads into West Bay slow down in the morning and late afternoon.

The Doha Metro's Red Line also runs from the airport to West Bay and Lusail, run by Qatar Rail. A car is the better fit with luggage, a group, a formal arrival or an address away from a station.
West Bay and Lusail: the two business districts
West Bay (Dafna) is Doha's established skyline on the northern curve of the Corniche: ministries, embassies, banks, energy companies and hotels such as the Four Seasons Doha, The St. Regis Doha and Shangri-La. The Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) is here, and the district is the default drop-off for most business visitors.
Lusail, about 20 km north of the centre, is the planned city that grew around the World Cup final venue, Lusail Stadium. It includes the Marina District with its office towers, Lusail Boulevard, the Place Vendôme mall, and the Katara Towers that house Raffles Doha and Fairmont Doha, along with the Waldorf Astoria Lusail. Lusail International Circuit, home of the Qatar motorsport races, lies on its northern side. Plan 20 to 30 minutes between West Bay and Lusail outside the peaks.
Between them sit The Pearl-Qatar, an artificial island of marinas, apartments and restaurants including the Marsa Malaz Kempinski, and Katara Cultural Village with its beach and amphitheatre. South of West Bay, Msheireb Downtown is the rebuilt old centre beside Souq Waqif, with the Mandarin Oriental Doha. To the west, Education City in Al Rayyan hosts Qatar Foundation universities and the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), and the Aspire Zone holds Khalifa International Stadium.

Details for each class are on the fleet. Every affiliate vehicle is four model years old or younger; Rolls-Royce, Maybach and Bentley are accepted up to seven. Delegations and multi-vehicle programmes are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing.
Doha's event calendar by month
Doha now hosts international events throughout the cooler months, and each one drives demand for cars:
- January to February: Qatar's international tennis tournaments, usually in February, at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
- February or early March: Web Summit Qatar, usually at DECC in West Bay.
- Early in the motorsport season: the MotoGP race at Lusail International Circuit, usually held under floodlights.
- May: the Qatar Economic Forum, usually at Lusail.
- Late November: the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix at Lusail International Circuit.
- December: the Doha Forum, and Qatar National Day on 18 December, with parades along the Corniche and road closures.

Cruise ships and crew changes
Doha's Grand Cruise Terminal is at Old Doha Port, in the Mina District on the Corniche, a few minutes from Souq Waqif and about 15 to 20 minutes from the airport. The cruise season generally runs from late autumn to spring, with ships sailing Gulf itineraries between Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat. Enter the terminal and your embarkation or arrival time when booking; the chauffeur meets you at the terminal's pickup area.
Commercial shipping uses Hamad Port, south of the city near Umm Alhoul, and the industrial port of Ras Laffan, about an hour north. Pickups at hotels, towers, malls and stadiums
Doha's large buildings have their own traffic rules, and knowing them saves time. Hotels in West Bay and Lusail use a porte-cochère with a doorman who controls the queue, so the chauffeur waits in the hotel's designated car area and comes forward when you appear. Office towers in West Bay and the Lusail Marina District usually have a drop-off lane at the lobby and basement parking for waiting cars; if your building needs a visitor pass for the car park, put the tower name and floor in the booking notes. Malls such as Place Vendôme and Doha Festival City have numbered entrances, and a pickup works best when you name the entrance.
Stadiums and the circuit are different. On match or race days, the organisers set drop-off and pickup zones some distance from the gates, and private cars are held there. An hourly booking means the chauffeur stays at that zone and you walk to a known point, instead of waiting for a car to fight its way back through closures.
Day trips north and south of Doha
Most business visitors never leave the city, but Qatar has a few worthwhile half-day and day trips by car:
- Al Zubarah, the UNESCO-listed fort and archaeological site on the north-west coast, is roughly 100 km from Doha, typically 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes each way.
- Al Khor, a fishing town and mangrove coast about 50 km north, is around 45 minutes away and often combined with a drive past Lusail.
- Al Wakrah, with its restored souq and beach, is 20 to 25 minutes south of the centre.
- Mesaieed and the dunes lie about 45 minutes south. The sand dunes and the Inland Sea at Khor Al Adaid require specialist four-wheel-drive desert operators, so a chauffeur takes you to the meeting point rather than onto the sand.

Long layovers: a few hours in Doha by car
Hamad International is a connecting hub, and many passengers spend six to twelve hours between flights. If your nationality and ticket allow you to leave the airport, an hourly chauffeur can take you to the Museum of Islamic Art, the National Museum of Qatar, Souq Waqif or The Pearl and bring you back with time to clear security. Driving and daily life in Doha
Qatar drives on the right, speed cameras are widespread and enforcement is strict. The working week runs Sunday to Thursday, so Friday mornings are quiet and Thursday evenings busy. Summer temperatures from June to September regularly pass 40°C, which is why a waiting car with the air conditioning running makes a difference at a hotel or stadium exit. During Ramadan, traffic peaks in the hour before iftar and again late in the evening.
Entry notes for Qatar
Citizens of many countries can enter Qatar visa-free or obtain a visa on arrival, and others apply online in advance through the Hayya platform. Requirements depend on nationality and change from time to time, so check Hayya or your airline before travel. Qatar's land border with Saudi Arabia is at Abu Samra, roughly an hour and a quarter south-west of Doha; cross-border trips are planned case by case.
Corporate travel and the Gulf network
