What is included in the Abu Dhabi fare, and the Darb toll
Abu Dhabi charges a road toll called Darb on the bridges onto the main island: the Sheikh Zayed, Sheikh Khalifa, Al Maqta and Mussafah bridges. Under the rules in force since 1 September 2025, a crossing costs AED 4 during peak hours, 7:00 to 9:00 and 15:00 to 19:00 from Monday to Saturday, with no daily cap for private vehicles; crossings at other times, on Sundays and on public holidays are free. Zayed International Airport (AUH): terminals and pickup
Abu Dhabi's airport was renamed Zayed International Airport in February 2024, a few months after the opening of Terminal A, the large new terminal that now handles all airlines, including the Etihad hub. The older terminals have closed to passengers, so there is one arrivals level to plan for. The airport sits on the mainland, about 30 km from the downtown Corniche.
Standard pickup is at the area designated for pre-booked cars and limousines outside arrivals at Terminal A; your confirmation gives the exact point and the chauffeur's mobile number. A name-board meet and greet in the arrivals hall is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations. Morning and late-afternoon peaks on the bridges, and Friday midday around mosques, add time. Summer heat from June to September does not slow traffic, but it makes a pre-cooled car waiting at the kerb more than a comfort.
Yas Island and the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December
Yas Island is the city's entertainment island: Yas Marina Circuit, Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, Yas Waterworld, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, Etihad Arena and Yas Mall, with hotels such as W Abu Dhabi Yas Island wrapped around the track. It is about 10 minutes from the airport.
The Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is the season finale and is usually held in late November or early December; the 2026 race weekend is scheduled for 4 to 6 December. That weekend reshapes traffic across the island: road closures around the circuit, controlled drop-off zones, and heavy demand for every class of vehicle. Our advice:
- Book as early as you can, especially SUVs, Sprinters and luxury cars.
- Hourly bookings work better than point-to-point runs on race days, because the car waits at the permitted zone rather than trying to return.
- Expect the chauffeur to use the official drop-off and pickup points the organisers designate; ticket access and hospitality gates are managed by the circuit.

Business districts, hotels and venues
Abu Dhabi's centre is an island, and business is spread across it and its neighbours. Al Maryah Island hosts Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), the financial free zone, with hotels such as the Four Seasons and Rosewood beside it. Al Reem Island next door is mostly residential towers. The Corniche runs along the northern shore past the Etihad Towers and the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, with Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace open to visitors, at its western end. Saadiyat Island holds the Cultural District around the Louvre Abu Dhabi and beach resorts such as the St. Regis Saadiyat Island. Mussafah on the mainland is the industrial and logistics zone.
The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), on the mainland side near the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, hosts the city's big trade shows: ADIPEC, the energy exhibition, usually in November; IDEX, the defence show, usually in February in odd-numbered years; and ADIHEX, the hunting and equestrian show, usually in late summer. During ADIPEC, hotels and cars book out, and group transport for exhibitors is best planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing.

Every affiliate vehicle is four model years old or younger; Rolls-Royce, Maybach and Bentley are accepted up to seven. Delegations and multi-vehicle programmes are handled under government and diplomatic and secure transportation.
Cruise calls at Zayed Port
Cruise ships berth at the Zayed Port Cruise Terminal at Mina Zayed, on the northern tip of the downtown island, about 10 minutes from the Corniche and 30 to 40 minutes from the airport. The season runs roughly from November to April, with fly-cruise turnarounds on many ships. Abu Dhabi to Dubai, Al Ain and beyond
The E11 motorway links Abu Dhabi and Dubai, about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes between the two downtowns, depending on the Dubai end and the time of day. Many travellers fly into one city and stay in the other, and a fixed-fare intercity transfer is the simplest way to connect them. Dubai trips pass through Dubai's Salik toll gates as well. Al Ain, the garden city on the Oman border, is about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours inland. Sightseeing by the hour: the Grand Mosque, Saadiyat and Qasr Al Watan
Abu Dhabi's landmarks are spread out, which is why an hourly booking is the usual way to see them in a day. A typical plan starts at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in the morning, when it is cooler and less crowded, continues to Qasr Al Watan at the western end of the Corniche, and finishes in the Saadiyat Cultural District at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, with a late lunch on the beach side of the island. Distances between them are 15 to 30 minutes by car.

The UAE drives on the right. Speed cameras are everywhere and limits are enforced strictly, which is one reason the drive times above are ranges rather than best cases. During Ramadan, traffic peaks shift towards the hour before iftar and the late evening. Friday midday prayers slow roads near large mosques. Dress codes and photography rules at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque are set by the mosque; the chauffeur drops at the visitor entrance.
Entry notes for the United Arab Emirates
Visitors from many countries receive a visa on arrival or enter visa-free, while others need a visa arranged in advance. Rules vary by nationality and change from time to time, so check the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) or your airline before travel.
