BlaakLane.com runs an airport chauffeur service in 500 cities. You enter the flight number, the address and the vehicle, and the reservation engine shows a fixed fare before you confirm. The chauffeur tracks the flight, is timed to the actual landing and waits 60 minutes free on international arrivals and 30 minutes on domestic ones.
How does the BlaakLane.com airport chauffeur service work?
An airport transfer with BlaakLane.com is a private car booked ahead for one party, from the terminal to an address or from an address to the terminal. It is not a shared shuttle and it is not a taxi from the rank. The booking has five parts, and each one is fixed before you pay:
- The airport and flight number. For arrivals, the flight number is what lets dispatch follow the aircraft. For departures, it lets the chauffeur plan a pickup time that respects the airline's check-in cut-off.
- The address. A hotel, an office, a private home, a cruise terminal or another airport. Hotel names work as well as street addresses.
- The vehicle class. Chosen by passenger count and, more importantly for airport work, by the number of large cases.
- Extras. Child seats, an extra stop, a name board in the arrivals hall where that add-on exists.
- The fare. The engine prices the trip for that date, time and car, and the figure you see is the figure you pay, with no meter running and no surge.
Once you confirm, you receive a written confirmation. In our home dispatch area around Toronto the trip is run from our own desk. Everywhere else, the transfer is driven by a vetted local affiliate from the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network, contracted to the BlaakLane.com written standard, and the confirmation names the operator and, closer to the day, the chauffeur. The same 24/7 desk in Toronto stays responsible for the booking from start to finish.
What is included in an airport transfer fare?
The fare shown in the engine is fixed for the trip as booked. It covers:
- The vehicle and a professional chauffeur for the route, door to door.
- Flight tracking from departure to landing, with the pickup time moved automatically if the flight is early or late.
- Included waiting from the actual landing time: 60 minutes on international arrivals, 30 minutes on domestic flights. Non-airport pickups include 15 minutes. After the included time, waiting is charged in 15-minute blocks, and the dispatcher will message you before the first block starts.
- Airport access charges that the operator pays to collect you.
- Child seats on request in most cities, at no charge.
- Bottled water in the car and a chauffeur who helps with the bags.
What is not included: gratuity, airport parking and any congestion or low-emission-zone charge, each billed at actual cost and added to the booking, plus extra stops you add on the day, waiting beyond the included time, and route changes you ask for after pickup. The planning ranges for each vehicle class sit on our rates page; the engine gives the exact figure for your airport and address.
Where will the chauffeur meet me at the airport?
This is the question travellers ask most, and the answer depends on what you book.
Curbside pickup is standard. Almost every major airport now restricts where pre-booked cars can stop. The chauffeur waits in the airport's designated commercial or pre-arranged pickup area, which may be a marked kerb, a short-stay car park or a ground transportation level. When you clear customs and collect your bags, you message or call the chauffeur (the number arrives by text), and you are directed to the car. The pickup instructions in your confirmation are written for that airport and terminal.
Meet and greet is an add-on. If you want the chauffeur standing in the arrivals hall with a name board, add meet and greet when you book. It suits first visits, elderly travellers, families with small children and VIP arrivals. Add-ons are only available in selected locations, because some airports do not allow drivers to wait inside the terminal or charge heavily for the parking that makes it possible. The engine only offers the option where it can be delivered.
How does flight tracking change the pickup time?
You do not need to call if your flight is delayed. Dispatch watches the flight from take-off. If a New York to London overnight lands forty minutes early at Heathrow, the chauffeur is re-timed to the new landing. If a Dubai arrival is held on the ground in Mumbai for two hours, the pickup moves with it and the included waiting starts from the real touchdown, not from the time printed on your ticket.
What flight tracking cannot see is the time you spend in immigration and at the baggage belt. That is why international arrivals get a full hour. At large hubs such as JFK Terminal 4 or Heathrow Terminal 3, a busy morning bank of long-haul arrivals can put 45 minutes or more between touchdown and the exit doors. If you know you will be slower, for example with oversized sports equipment or a pet to collect from cargo, add a note and dispatch will plan for it.
Airport transfers in six example cities
The service is the same in every city; the airports are not. This table shows how the transfer looks at six of the busiest gateways we serve. Drive times are typical ranges and depend on traffic and time of day.
| City | Main airports | Typical drive to the centre | Local notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York | JFK, Newark, LaGuardia; Teterboro for private jets | JFK to Midtown about 45-75 min | Bridge and tunnel tolls apply on most routes into Manhattan |
| London | Heathrow (T2-T5), Gatwick, City, Stansted, Luton | Heathrow to Mayfair about 45-75 min | Left-hand driving; Congestion Charge and ULEZ in central London |
| Dubai | Dubai International (T1-T3), Al Maktoum (DWC) | DXB to Downtown or DIFC about 15-30 min | Salik road tolls on main highways |
| Paris | Charles de Gaulle (T1-T3), Orly; Le Bourget for jets | CDG to the 8th arrondissement about 40-70 min | Crit'Air low-emission rules in the Greater Paris zone |
| Singapore | Changi (T1-T4) | Changi to Marina Bay about 20-30 min | Left-hand driving; Electronic Road Pricing gantries |
| Toronto | Pearson (T1, T3), Billy Bishop | Pearson to downtown about 30-60 min | Home dispatch area; Highway 407 is an electronic toll road |
Each of these cities has its own page with the local detail: New York, London, Dubai, Paris, Singapore and Toronto. The main airports have their own guides too, including JFK, Heathrow, Dubai International, Charles de Gaulle, Changi and Toronto Pearson.
Which vehicle should I book for an airport transfer?
Choose by luggage first and people second. A long-haul trip often means one large case per person plus cabin bags, and that fills a sedan boot faster than most people expect.
- Standard Sedan (E-Class, 5 Series or similar): up to 3 passengers and 3 cases. The default for a solo business traveller.
- Luxury Executive Sedan (S-Class, 7 Series or similar): up to 3 passengers and 2 cases. For senior executives and anyone who wants to sleep on the way in.
- Executive SUV (Escalade, Suburban, GLS or similar): up to 6 passengers and 6 cases. The safe choice for families and for skis or golf bags.
- Standard Black SUV (V-Class or similar): up to 6 passengers with easy sliding-door access, useful with pushchairs and car seats.
- Sprinter Van: up to 14 passengers. Airline crews, sports teams, wedding parties.
- Minicoach and motorcoach: 24 to 56 seats for conference groups and crew changes, planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing.
Premium arrivals can also be met in a Rolls-Royce, Maybach or Bentley from our partner fleet. Every class is described on the fleet page. If you are unsure, pick the larger car; an SUV that is half empty is a better outcome than a sedan that cannot close its boot.
How far ahead should I book, and how do I change a booking?
Book as soon as your flight is ticketed. The engine accepts bookings up to a few hours before pickup in most cities, but availability of specific classes (a Sprinter at Heathrow on a Friday evening, an SUV at Dubai during a major exhibition week) is best secured early.
Changes to the flight number, the time or the address can be made from your confirmation or by contacting the desk at (877) 397-6699 or support@blaaklane.com, at any hour. If a change moves the booking into a different fare, the new figure is shown before you accept it.
The cancellation policy is the same on every airport transfer:
- More than 72 hours before pickup: no charge.
- 72 hours or less: 10 % of the fare.
- 48 hours or less: 50 % of the fare.
- 24 hours or less, or a no-show: 100 % of the fare.
A flight cancelled by the airline is handled case by case; tell the desk as soon as you know and the booking is usually moved to your new flight.
Departures: how early will the chauffeur collect me?
For a departure, the pickup time is the one thing you choose, so we suggest one when you book. The suggestion works back from the airline's check-in and bag-drop cut-off, adds a realistic drive time for that hour, and adds a margin for the security queue at that airport.
As a rule of thumb, most travellers aim to reach the terminal about three hours before an international departure and two hours before a domestic one, and earlier during holiday peaks. A 7:00 flight out of Newark with a Midtown pickup, or a Friday afternoon departure from Heathrow Terminal 5 with a Kensington pickup, needs more road time than the map suggests. The chauffeur arrives at your address before the pickup time, and 15 minutes of waiting is included at the door.
Private jet, cruise and rail connections
Not every flight lands at a commercial terminal. For private aviation, the chauffeur meets you airside or at the FBO door where the handler allows it, at airports such as Teterboro, Farnborough, Paris Le Bourget and Singapore Seletar. Tail number and handler replace the flight number in the booking. See private jets and FBOs for how those pickups work.
Many airport transfers are really connections: a fly-cruise arrival going straight to Dubai's Mina Rashid or Singapore's Marina Bay Cruise Centre, or a Heathrow arrival heading to London St Pancras for the Eurostar. Book those as one trip with the final address, and the chauffeur plans the whole route.
Airport transfers for companies, crews and groups
Travel managers can put every airport transfer on a corporate account: monthly invoicing, cost centres, booker and traveller profiles, and duty-of-care trip data that shows where each traveller is at pickup and drop-off. A named coordinator looks after the account.
Airline crews, ship crews and large delegations are a different kind of airport work. Airline crew transportation runs to rosters rather than single bookings, and shipping crew changes often combine an airport arrival, a hotel night and a port transfer. These programmes are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing, as are roadshows and multi-vehicle arrivals for events.
Who drives my transfer outside Toronto?
Our reservations and dispatch desk is in Toronto and runs 24/7. We do not claim offices, garages or cars in London, Dubai or Singapore. In those cities, and in the other cities in the network, your transfer is driven by an affiliate operator that has been vetted and contracted to our written standard. That standard covers commercial passenger licensing in the local jurisdiction, passenger insurance, chauffeur screening and conduct, and vehicle condition: every vehicle is four model years old or newer, with only Rolls-Royce, Maybach and Bentley accepted up to seven.
If anything on the day is not as booked, you contact the same desk you booked with, not a stranger's switchboard. More on how we check operators is on the safety and standards page.
Arriving in a new country: customs, visas and cash
An airport chauffeur cannot help you through immigration, so check the entry rules before you fly. Many travellers to the United States need an ESTA or a visa, travellers to Canada may need an eTA, and the United Kingdom has been rolling out its own Electronic Travel Authorisation. Official guidance lives on the US Customs and Border Protection and UK Government sites.
Once you are through, you need no local currency for the car. The fare is paid in advance through the booking, and waiting blocks, if any, are settled the same way. Gratuity is handled like that too: it is charged at actual cost and added to the booking.
Checking the airport before you fly
Terminal assignments and pickup-zone rules change, particularly at airports in the middle of rebuilding programmes. Your confirmation carries the current instructions, and each airport publishes its own ground transportation page: see Heathrow, Dubai Airports, Changi Airport and Toronto Pearson for examples. If your airline moves terminals, update the booking and the chauffeur will be told.
For a transfer that includes a stop on the way, such as a hotel check-in before a meeting, look at private airport transfers with extra stops, or at hourly chauffeur hire if the day will run on after landing.
