JFK is in the middle of the largest rebuild in its history. - Midtown Manhattan: 45 to 90 minutes, via the Van Wyck and Long Island Expressway to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel, or the Grand Central Parkway to the RFK Bridge.
- Lower Manhattan and the Financial District: 50 to 90 minutes via the Belt Parkway and the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel or Brooklyn Bridge.
- Brooklyn (Downtown, Williamsburg, DUMBO): 30 to 60 minutes.

The AirTrain JFK links every terminal to Jamaica Station, for the Long Island Rail Road and the E, J and Z subway lines, and to Howard Beach for the A train. It is inexpensive and immune to road traffic, but it involves carrying bags up stairs, a transfer and, from Jamaica, a 20 to 35 minute ride into Penn Station or Grand Central Madison.
