JFK, LaGuardia and Newark: terminals and how pickup works

New York is served by three large commercial airports, and each has its own rules for pre-arranged cars. JFK International

JFK is in the middle of a roughly $19 billion rebuild led by the Port Authority. Terminal 2 closed in 2023. The first phase of the new Terminal 6 opened to passengers in the first half of 2026, while the New Terminal One, which will replace the current Terminal 1, is now expected to begin opening in early 2027. Terminals 4, 5, 7 and 8 remain in use, and the roadways around the Central Terminal Area shift as construction moves. Your confirmation gives the exact pickup point for your terminal and airline. Midtown is about 15 miles away: allow 45 to 75 minutes, and longer on a weekday evening.

LaGuardia

LaGuardia has been rebuilt around Terminals B and C, with the smaller Terminal A at the historic Marine Air Terminal. It sits about 8 miles from Midtown, typically 25 to 50 minutes via the Grand Central Parkway and the RFK Bridge or the Queensboro Bridge. LaGuardia is mostly domestic, so the 30-minute included wait applies unless you arrive on a pre-cleared flight from Canada or the Caribbean that we treat as international.

Newark Liberty

Newark is in New Jersey but is often the fastest airport for the West Side, Hudson Yards and the Financial District. The new Terminal A opened in 2023; United's hub is Terminal C. Private jets: Teterboro, Westchester and Morristown

Most business aviation into the New York area lands at Teterboro, about 12 miles from Midtown.
