Which airport should you fly into for Atlantic City?
Two airports serve most visitors, and the choice changes the car ride more than anything else.
Atlantic City International (ACY) is in Egg Harbor Township, about 12 miles west of the Boardwalk. It has a single small terminal with a limited schedule of mainly leisure flights, so the walk from the gate to the curb is short. Philadelphia International (PHL) has far more flights, including long-haul international service, and is about 60 miles away. The drive via the Walt Whitman or Commodore Barry bridge and the Atlantic City Expressway typically takes 60 to 80 minutes, longer on summer Fridays. Getting around the resorts
Atlantic City splits into two resort areas. Along the Boardwalk, from north to south, sit Ocean Casino Resort, Hard Rock, Resorts, Caesars, Bally's and Tropicana, with the Steel Pier amusement pier jutting into the ocean near the middle of the strip. The Marina District, on the bay side about 2 miles north-west, holds Borgata, Harrah's and the Golden Nugget. One-way cars from New York, or from Newark airport, run down the Garden State Parkway; from Philadelphia they cross the Delaware River and join the Atlantic City Expressway. Rail and bus into town
NJ Transit's Atlantic City Rail Line runs from Philadelphia 30th Street Station to the Atlantic City Rail Terminal beside the Convention Center, with stops across South Jersey; the trip takes about 90 minutes. Casino buses and jitneys run on Pacific Avenue. Schedules are on NJ Transit. If you arrive by train, give the train time in the booking and the chauffeur meets you at the terminal's pickup lane.
Driving realities: tolls, the Parkway and the season
Driving is on the right. The Atlantic City Expressway, run by the South Jersey Transportation Authority, is tolled, as is the Garden State Parkway, and both use E-ZPass or toll-by-plate.
