Kansas City International Airport opened its single new terminal in February 2023, replacing the three horseshoe-shaped terminals that had served the city since 1972. The airport is in Platte County, about 15 to 18 miles north of downtown, and the airport's official site posts ground transportation guidance.

Interstate 29 and US 169 are the main routes south to the city, crossing the Missouri River by the Buck O'Neil Bridge or the Christopher S. Bond Bridge.

Driving realities in the metro
