The E11 coastal highway links Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, and the E311 runs parallel inland.

The Dubai-Sharjah crossing is one of the most congested routes in the country at rush hour, so a 20 km trip can take an hour. Cross-border trips to Oman, whether to Musandam or Muscat, are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing. Parking at the airports and at venues such as Dubai Mall or Yas Island is added to the fare at the actual amount, and so is gratuity.

Driving realities, tolls and the UAE calendar
