Business aviation at Al Maktoum
Al Maktoum International sits in Dubai South, about 40 kilometres south-west of Downtown Dubai and close to Jebel Ali and Expo City Dubai. Its long runway and space on the ground make it the main business aviation airport for Dubai, while Dubai International to the north concentrates on airline traffic. Jetex operates an FBO at DWC, with its own passenger terminal, lounges and customs and immigration processing for private flights. Pickup at the FBO door, and ramp requests
The chauffeur waits outside the FBO entrance, a few steps from the lounge. The FBO team handles your bags from aircraft to car. If you would like the car to come to the aircraft, ask when you book. We pass the chauffeur's name, licence and plate to the FBO and your aircraft operator, and airside access is only possible if both approve it for that arrival under the airport's security rules. Plan on the door.
Immigration, visas and customs
Private passengers clear UAE immigration and customs inside the FBO, which is usually quicker than a main terminal. Many nationalities receive a visit visa on arrival; others need one in advance. Check your nationality on the UAE federal identity and citizenship authority site before you fly. Medicines containing controlled substances need prior approval in the UAE, and customs checks are strict. Arrivals at DWC include royal households, heads of state, family offices and sports teams. The chauffeur does not hold a name board at the FBO unless asked, and can use service entrances at hotels and residences. Motorcades, close protection and multi-vehicle movements are handled through secure transportation and HNWI and family office travel, planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing.
Airshow weeks and busy seasons
DWC hosts the Dubai Airshow in November of odd-numbered years, when the whole airport area is crowded and road access is controlled. The cooler months from October to April are peak season for private travel, with added traffic for the Dubai World Cup race meeting, usually in late March. During Ramadan, road traffic patterns shift towards the evening.
Waiting and cancellation
Included waiting runs from actual landing: 60 minutes on an international arrival, then 15-minute blocks. Hourly bookings start at three hours. For DWC trips, cancelling more than 72 hours before pickup is free; after that the fee is 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show. Private jets that drop passengers at DWC often stay on the ground for days, and their pilots and cabin crew need their own transport to a hotel in Dubai Marina, Jebel Ali or Downtown. Crew runs can be booked on the same account as the principal's car, with the tail number in the notes so the chauffeur waits for the crew to finish post-flight duties.
