Miami International Airport: arrivals and pickup
Miami International is a single horseshoe-shaped terminal divided into three sections: the North Terminal (Concourse D, the American Airlines hub), the Central Terminal (Concourses E, F and G) and the South Terminal (Concourses H and J). It is one of the busiest gateways between the United States and Latin America, so international arrival banks are heavy in the morning and late afternoon.

Fort Lauderdale as an alternative gateway
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International has four terminals and is about 28 miles north of Brickell, typically 35 to 75 minutes via I-95. It is often cheaper for flights and closer to Aventura, Sunny Isles, Hollywood and Port Everglades. Pickups are at the airport's designated area for pre-arranged vehicles outside baggage claim; see Fort Lauderdale for trips that stay in Broward County. Private jets: Opa-locka, Fort Lauderdale Executive and Tamiami
Business aviation in South Florida is spread across several fields. Miami-Opa Locka Executive, about 12 miles north of downtown, has FBOs including Signature and Fontainebleau Aviation and suits Miami Beach and Aventura. Fort Lauderdale Executive is home to Banyan Air Service and serves Broward and Boca Raton. Miami Executive Airport in Kendall, formerly Kendall-Tamiami, serves the southern suburbs. PortMiami: cruise day logistics
PortMiami on Dodge Island is often called the cruise capital of the world, with multiple lettered terminals serving the major lines and several ships in port on busy weekend mornings. The single access road over the Port Boulevard bridge and the port tunnel from the MacArthur Causeway both converge on the island, so embarkation traffic between about 10 am and 1 pm is slow.
Practical points for cruise passengers:

Stadiums and arenas
Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens hosts the Dolphins, the Miami Open, the Formula 1 race and big concerts; it is about 18 miles from Brickell, and post-event traffic on the Florida Turnpike and NW 27th Avenue is heavy. The Kaseya Center downtown is home to the Heat. The Marlins play at loanDepot park in Little Havana. Inter Miami moved into its new stadium at Miami Freedom Park, next to MIA, in April 2026. Brightline's MiamiCentral station in downtown Miami runs higher-speed trains to Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach and Orlando International Airport. The Overseas Highway to Key West is two lanes for long stretches, so a weekend departure can take longer than the table suggests. Book these as intercity transfers, or as day trips if you want the car to wait.
Local driving conditions
Traffic drives on the right. Florida tolls are fully electronic, with no cash lanes on most expressways; information is on SunPass. I-95 and the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) are the main north-south arteries and both are slow at rush hour. Afternoon thunderstorms from May to October can flood low streets in Brickell and South Beach for an hour or two. Drawbridges on the Venetian Causeway and the Miami River open for boats and can add a few minutes. Fisher Island is reached only by ferry, so we drop off at the ferry terminal on the MacArthur Causeway.
