What kind of airport is Fort Lauderdale Executive?
FXE is a city-owned general aviation airport about six miles north of downtown Fort Lauderdale, between Commercial Boulevard and Cypress Creek Road and just west of I-95. It has no airline service. Its traffic is business jets, turboprops, flight schools and charter operators, many of them flying to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. The City of Fort Lauderdale runs the field and the surrounding Uptown business district, and a short history sits on Wikipedia. If you are on a scheduled airline, you want Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International instead.
Banyan Air Service and the other handlers
Banyan Air Service is the best known FBO at FXE, with its own lobby, customs-friendly procedures and a car area in front of the building. Other handlers and charter operators occupy hangars around the field. We mention Banyan as a place to drive to, not as a partner of BlaakLane.com. Whichever handler your flight department has booked, write it in the notes; the field has several entrances and the name saves the chauffeur a lap of the perimeter road.
FBO door or planeside?
The normal pickup is at the front of the FBO, in the spot its staff set aside for chauffeured cars. You walk through the lobby, the line crew bring the bags, and the car is a few steps away. Planeside service, where the chauffeur drives through the gate to the aircraft, happens only when the FBO and the aircraft operator both approve ramp access for that vehicle and that driver on that day. We pass on your request and tell you what was agreed. We cannot guarantee it, and on crowded weekends the answer is often no.
Arriving from the Bahamas or abroad
A large share of FXE's international traffic is short hops from Nassau, the Abacos, Bimini and the Exumas. Every one of those flights must clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection on arrival, with the passenger and crew manifest sent in advance. Clearance hours and procedures are CBP's to set, so ask your FBO what to expect at your arrival time. The chauffeur is not part of the inspection and never holds passports; the FBO tells us when you are released, and the 60 minutes of included international waiting runs from arrival. I-95 through Broward is the swing factor: rush hour, rain and accidents move these times more than distance does. Chauffeurs use Federal Highway or Powerline Road when the interstate stalls, and the fixed fare means a detour costs you nothing extra.
From the jet to a yacht or a cruise ship
Fort Lauderdale calls itself the yachting capital, and many FXE passengers are heading to a boat rather than a hotel. Give the marina name, the slip or dock, and the captain's number in the notes; the chauffeur can only enter a marina where the marina permits it. For a cruise the same day, allow for ship check-in times at Port Everglades. The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is usually held in late October or early November and is one of the busiest weeks of the year at FXE, so book both legs early. What the FXE fare covers
The fare is fixed for the address, date, time and vehicle you chose. Included waiting follows the flight: 60 minutes after an international arrival, 30 minutes after a domestic one, then 15-minute blocks. Child seats are free on request. Cancelling more than 72 hours before pickup costs nothing; 72 hours or less is 10%, 48 hours or less 50%, and 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%.
