Los Cabos International: terminals and where to find your car
Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) is near San Jose del Cabo, at the eastern end of the destination. Terminal 1 handles domestic flights and some international ones; Terminal 2 handles international flights, and a third terminal building is used for some international operations. After immigration and customs, arrivals walk through a hall where timeshare and tour sellers approach travellers offering "free" transport or discounts. You do not need to stop; continue outside. Curbside pickup at the airport's designated area for pre-arranged transport is standard, and your confirmation says exactly where the affiliate waits and gives the chauffeur's number. Arriving in Mexico
Most visitors from the United States, Canada, the UK and the EU do not need a visa for tourism. At SJD, immigration officers record your permitted stay, now usually by a stamp or electronic record rather than the old paper FMM form, so check the number of days given. At customs, you press a button that shows green (pass) or red (inspection). Mexico's immigration institute, the INM, publishes current rules. Peak Saturday arrivals, when many US flights land at midday, create the longest queues, which the 60-minute included wait allows for.

The Tourist Corridor and resort map
The 30-odd km of highway between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas holds most of the destination's luxury resorts. Near the San Jose end are One&Only Palmilla and Las Ventanas al Paraiso; further along, Montage Los Cabos, Chileno Bay, Esperanza and the resorts of Cabo del Sol and Cabo Real. San Jose del Cabo, at the eastern end, is the quieter town: a colonial church square, the Art District's galleries and the Puerto Los Cabos marina with its own golf and resorts. Cabo San Lucas, at the western tip, is livelier, with the marina, Medano Beach, the boat trips to the Arch at Land's End and most of the nightlife. Many guests split time between the two, and the 30 to 45 minutes between them makes an hourly car or a pair of one-way trips an easy way to have dinner in one town and sleep in the other. The East Cape, beyond Puerto Los Cabos, is a slower coastline of smaller resorts and fishing villages. Golf, marinas and day trips by the hour
Los Cabos is a golf destination, with courses at Cabo del Sol, Quivira, Diamante, Palmilla, Puerto Los Cabos and Querencia among others. Driving realities in Baja California Sur
Mexico drives on the right. The Tourist Corridor highway is four lanes with some sharp curves and resort entrances that require slow turns. Topes (speed bumps) appear in towns without warning. Heavy rain in hurricane season sends water through dry arroyos, and drivers wait rather than cross a flooded dip. Roads to the East Cape and Todos Santos are two lanes with long unlit stretches, so evening drives take longer. The resort areas see high visitor numbers, and normal precautions apply; check your government's current travel advisory before you go, and request secure transportation if your profile calls for it. Departure day: leaving the resort for SJD
Airlines recommend arriving at Los Cabos International about three hours before an international flight, and check-in and security lines on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the winter season can be long. Most corridor guests leave the resort three to three and a half hours before departure; from Cabo San Lucas or Pedregal, add a little more, and from the East Cape or Todos Santos allow at least four hours. Tell us the terminal for your flight when you book the return so the chauffeur drops you at the right door. Late checkout is common, so many guests pair the departure transfer with an hourly block for lunch in San Jose del Cabo on the way to the airport.
Villas, groceries and arrival-day planning
Many visitors rent villas in Pedregal, Palmilla, Querencia, El Tezal or the East Cape rather than staying in a resort. Villa arrivals involve two practical steps: gate clearance at the community entrance and, often, a grocery stop.
