Cozumel International Airport (CZM)
Cozumel International Airport sits about 3 km north-east of downtown San Miguel and is operated by ASUR. It has one passenger terminal with direct flights from several US and Canadian cities and connections via Mexico City and Cancun. As at every airport in Mexico, the grounds are federal, and pickups at the building are limited to permitted transport; pre-booked cars meet passengers at the designated area for pre-arranged vehicles outside arrivals. That curbside pickup is standard. A name-board meet and greet inside is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations. Flights are tracked, with 60 minutes of included waiting on international arrivals, 30 on domestic flights and 15 on other pickups, then 15-minute blocks.
The three cruise piers and how cruise pickups work

Each pier sits inside a secured port zone with its own shopping plaza. Pier gates, transport lanes and the island's taxi union follow local rules, and private vehicles collect passengers only at the transport areas the terminal permits, usually just outside the pier plaza. The ferry from Playa del Carmen
Passenger ferries run many times a day between the main pier in Playa del Carmen and the Muelle Fiscal in central San Miguel, a crossing of about 35 to 45 minutes. Seas can be choppy in the afternoon and in winter north winds (nortes). A car ferry runs from Punta Venado south of Playa to a terminal south of town, taking longer. The island has a single coastal loop, the transversal road across the middle and a few town streets, so traffic is light outside ship hours. The east coast faces the open sea, with strong surf and few services.
An island tour by the hour
The classic loop runs south past the dive resorts and Chankanaab, round the lighthouse at Punta Sur, up the wild windward coast with its beach restaurants, and back across the island via San Gervasio. It takes four to six hours with stops. Book the hourly chauffeur service and give the ship's all-aboard time; the chauffeur plans the route to have you at the pier with time to spare. Divers can arrange trips to the marinas; the reef belongs to the Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park, whose fee is paid through the dive operator.
Vehicles on the island
The island's roads suit a Standard Sedan or executive SUV for couples, and a Standard Black SUV for families and dive groups with gear. Sprinter Vans carry wedding parties and cruise groups. Larger coaches and partner luxury classes are limited on the island and should be booked early. Seasons and events
Winter, from December to April, is the peak of both cruising and diving. Cozumel's Carnival, usually in February or early March before Lent, brings parades to the waterfront Avenida Rafael Melgar and road closures in town. The Ironman Cozumel triathlon is usually held in November, closing parts of the coastal road for most of a day. Hurricane season runs from June to November, and ships can skip the port when a storm approaches. Tourism information is on Caribe Mexicano.
Entry rules: FMM, cruise visits and Visitax
Cruise passengers on a port call are processed through the ship and do not need to fill in their own FMM for the day. If you fly in, immigration records the permitted stay digitally at CZM, creating a digital FMM with the fee normally inside the airline ticket. Anyone arriving by private boat completes the FMM, which INM offers online. Overnight visitors to Quintana Roo are also asked to pay Visitax, the state tourism fee, online. Citizens of the US, Canada, the UK and the EU need no visa for tourism.
