CUN terminals: 2, 3 and 4
Cancun runs several terminals, each with its own curb. Highway 307 is a dual carriageway for most of the route, but construction zones and police checkpoints can slow traffic. The fare stays fixed regardless.
Tren Maya and other ways into town
The Tren Maya has a Cancun Aeropuerto station near the airport, with services along the peninsula toward Playa del Carmen, Tulum and beyond. It is useful for sightseeing, but frequencies are limited, the station is not inside the terminals, and a resort still needs a car at the other end. Peak arrivals run from mid-December to April, with spikes at Christmas, New Year, US spring break in March and Easter. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November. Departures from the Riviera Maya
Return trips need more buffer than guests expect. From the Hotel Zone, leave about three hours before an international flight; from Playa del Carmen, about three and a half hours; from Tulum, four hours or a little more. Security and check-in queues at Terminals 3 and 4 are longest on Saturday and Sunday mornings in high season. Book the departure pickup when you book the arrival, and enter the correct terminal for your airline so the chauffeur drops you at the right curb.
Villas, gated communities and resort gates
Many Riviera Maya villas sit inside gated developments with guard houses, and some large resorts only let registered vehicles past the main gate.
