Road routes from Luanda

Luanda's layout shapes every booking. The Baixa and the Marginal hold the older centre, the Ilha de Luanda peninsula has restaurants and beach clubs, and the planned districts of Talatona and Kilamba spread to the south. Leaving a margin for traffic between these areas is the most useful habit for visitors, particularly on Friday afternoons. Driving realities and the Angolan calendar

Angola drives on the right. Luanda's traffic is heavy through much of the day, particularly on the Via Expressa and the roads linking the Baixa with Talatona and Kilamba, so journey times vary widely. Outside the capital, road quality ranges from good new highways to rough stretches, and longer trips are usually planned for daylight. Parking at the airports and gratuity are added at the actual amount.

The rainy season runs roughly from October or November to April, with heavy downpours that can flood low-lying streets; the cooler, drier cacimbo season runs roughly May to September and is more comfortable for travel. Luanda's Carnival parade on the Marginal is held in February or March, before Lent. Independence Day on 11 November and major oil and gas conferences bring government motorcades and security closures in the city centre.
