What is chauffeur hire, and how is it different from a taxi?
Chauffeur hire is a private chauffeur service booked ahead for a set journey or a set block of time. The car and the driver are yours for the booking: nobody else is picked up, the car does not leave to find another fare, and the route follows your plan rather than the next dispatch request.
Three things separate it from a taxi or an app ride:
- The price is agreed first. The fare is fixed when you book, for the city, time and vehicle. It does not change because traffic is heavy or demand spikes after a concert.
- The chauffeur is a professional. Licensed for commercial passenger work in that jurisdiction, screened, dressed for business, and briefed on your itinerary before the day.
- The car stays with you. On hourly hire, the chauffeur waits outside each meeting, holds your bags and shopping, and is ready when you walk out.

- Pick the city and the start address. Hotels, offices and private addresses all work.
- Choose transfer or hourly. For hourly hire, set the start time and the number of hours. Add the stops you already know; the rest can be directed on the day.
- Choose the vehicle class. Sedan, SUV, van, Sprinter or a partner Rolls-Royce, Maybach or Bentley.
- Add passenger details and notes. Name, mobile number, any child seats (free on request in most cities), and anything the chauffeur should know, such as a wheelchair that folds into the boot.
- Check the fixed fare and confirm. The figure shown is the figure charged for the booking as described.
Your confirmation follows by email. Where the city is outside our Toronto home dispatch area, the booking is driven by a vetted local affiliate contracted to our written standard, and the confirmation names the operator; the chauffeur's name and mobile number follow before pickup.
What is included when you hire a chauffeur by the hour?
Hourly hire, often called "as directed", gives you the car and the chauffeur for a block of time to use as you like within the city area. The hourly fare covers:
- The vehicle and the chauffeur for every booked hour, including the time the car waits outside your meetings.
- All driving between your stops within the local service area.
- Fuel for all the driving in the booked hours.
- Bottled water, phone charging and a quiet, clean cabin.
- A dispatcher watching the booking, able to extend it if the day runs long.
Extra hours on the day are charged at the same hourly rate, in the increments shown on your confirmation. The chauffeur's parking while waiting, gratuity and city access charges such as the London Congestion Charge are not in the hourly fare; they are charged at actual cost and added to the booking. Chauffeur hire in six example cities
Hiring a chauffeur works the same way in every city, but each city asks for slightly different planning.
New York. Midtown meeting days are the classic use: the chauffeur circles or holds nearby while you are upstairs, because kerb space on Park and Madison is scarce. Crossing between Manhattan, Brooklyn and the airports means bridge and tunnel tolls. Commercial passenger vehicles in the city are licensed by the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission. See New York.

Which car should I hire with my chauffeur?
Match the car to the day rather than to the first trip. A four-stop day with two colleagues and sample cases needs more space than the drive to the first meeting suggests.
- Standard Sedan for one to three people with light luggage, the default for executive days.
- Luxury Executive Sedan for senior executives, diplomats and anyone who will spend hours in the back working.
- Executive SUV for six people or for security details who need a larger vehicle.
- Standard Black SUV for families and small teams, with lounge seating and sliding doors.
- Sprinter Van for up to fourteen, such as a board visiting three sites or a wedding party.

Who are the chauffeurs, and how are they vetted?
In the Toronto area, dispatch assigns chauffeurs directly. In the other cities in the network, the chauffeur works for a local operator that has been vetted and contracted through the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network. Either way, the written BlaakLane.com standard applies: the chauffeur is licensed for commercial passenger transport where they work, the operator carries commercial passenger insurance, and every vehicle is four model years old or newer, with Rolls-Royce, Maybach and Bentley accepted up to seven.
The standard also covers conduct. Chauffeurs keep conversation to the passenger's lead, do not take calls on the phone speaker with a passenger aboard, and treat anything they overhear as confidential. Details are on the safety and standards page.
Hiring a chauffeur for a whole day or a trip
Some bookings are really short itineraries. A full-day hire might start with a hotel pickup, take in a factory tour two hours out of town, lunch, and a late return to the airport. Others are private tours and day trips: Versailles and Giverny from Paris, the Cotswolds from London, Niagara Falls from Toronto, or the Hudson Valley from New York.
On a full day, the chauffeur's hours and rest breaks are planned in advance. Local rules limit how long a commercial driver may drive, and long days sometimes need a second chauffeur or an overnight stop; the coordinator will tell you before you book if that applies. Multi-day hire for a delegation or a family holiday keeps the same chauffeur where the rota allows, which travellers value more than anything else.
Chauffeur hire for companies and personal assistants
A corporate account turns chauffeur hire into a managed service. Bookers can reserve cars for executives in any city on the network, travellers keep profiles with their preferred car and notes, and finance receives one monthly invoice split by cost centre. Duty-of-care trip data shows pickup and drop-off times for each journey.

Changing or cancelling a chauffeur booking
Plans move, and the booking can move with them. Extend the hours on the day by telling the chauffeur or the dispatcher; the extra time is charged at the booked hourly rate. Change the start time or address in advance through your confirmation or by writing to support@blaaklane.com.
If the booking is cancelled, the charge depends on how much notice we receive before the pickup time:
- Over 72 hours' notice: free.
- Within 72 hours: 10 % of the booked fare.
- Within 48 hours: 50 % of the booked fare.
- Within 24 hours, or if the passenger does not show: the full fare.
For multi-day programmes, the coordinator confirms how the policy applies to each day in writing.
Chauffeur hire, limousine or black car: which one do I need?
The terms overlap. "Chauffeur hire" usually means the driver and car are booked for your time or your itinerary. A black car service usually means a pre-booked executive sedan or SUV for a transfer, often on a corporate account. A limousine service usually means a stretch or ultra-luxury car for an occasion.
