How to book a CDG airport transfer
Charles de Gaulle is a big, spread-out airport, and the traffic into Paris on the A1 and A3 motorways varies from 40 minutes at dawn to well over an hour at rush hour. CDG terminals: 1, 2A to 2G and 3
Paris Charles de Gaulle is run by Groupe ADP and has three terminal areas:
- Terminal 1: the circular concrete building on the north side of the site, used by many international airlines, including numerous Star Alliance carriers.
- Terminal 2: a long chain of halls, 2A to 2G, used by Air France and its SkyTeam partners as well as Oneworld and other airlines. Terminal 2G, for smaller regional aircraft, is reached by shuttle bus from 2E and 2F.
- Terminal 3: a simple building next to the Roissypole area, used mainly by charter and low-cost flights.
The automatic CDGVAL shuttle links Terminal 1, Terminal 3 and the Terminal 2 railway station. Terminals and halls change with airline alliances, so check your booking and the Paris Aeroport site before flying. The flight number is enough for the chauffeur to go to the right hall.
Border control: EES and what it means for arrival times
Non-EU travellers entering the Schengen area now pass through the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), which records fingerprints and a facial image at the first crossing and then replaces passport stamps. The first registration takes longer than a traditional stamp, so allow extra time on your first trip after EES began; later entries are faster. The official EU travel site explains the process. In practice, a long-haul arrival at CDG takes 30 to 75 minutes from landing to the exit, depending on the terminal, the passport lines and baggage delivery. That is why the chauffeur's included waiting on international flights is 60 minutes from actual touchdown, with any extra charged in 15-minute blocks. Flights from within the Schengen area, such as Nice or Frankfurt, include 30 minutes, since there is no passport control.
Where pre-booked cars pick up at CDG
Each terminal has designated pickup areas for pre-booked cars and VTC, separate from the official taxi ranks. Your chauffeur waits in the area that serves your terminal and messages you with the exact meeting point, usually after you have collected your luggage. Touting for passengers inside the terminals is not allowed, so only follow the chauffeur named on your confirmation.
If you prefer to be met in the arrivals hall with a name board, choose the meet and greet add-on. Add-ons are only available in selected locations, and the booker shows whether it can be added at your CDG terminal. Child seats are free on request, and French law requires suitable restraints for young children.

France drives on the right. Weekday mornings inbound and evenings outbound are the slowest on the A1. Inside the city, the Peripherique ring road has a 50 km/h limit, and Paris and its inner suburbs form a low-emission zone that uses Crit'Air stickers to regulate which vehicles may enter.
Rail alternatives: RER B, TGV and the CDG Express
CDG has good rail links. The RER B suburban line runs from stations at Terminal 2 and at Roissypole, next to Terminal 3 and linked to Terminal 1 by CDGVAL, reaching Gare du Nord in about 30 to 35 minutes and continuing through Chatelet to the Left Bank. The RATP and SNCF run it; timetables are on the RATP site. The Aeroport CDG 2 TGV station, under Terminal 2, has high-speed trains to Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Brussels and other cities, bookable through SNCF Connect. A dedicated express rail link, the CDG Express, is under construction between the airport and Gare de l'Est.
Rail is fast in good conditions, but it involves stairs, crowded carriages with luggage and connections in Paris. Trade fairs, fashion weeks and major events
Paris Nord Villepinte, about 10 minutes from CDG, hosts large trade fairs, and Paris Expo Porte de Versailles is on the far side of the city. Paris Fashion Week runs usually in late February or early March and again in late September or early October, and the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget takes place in odd-numbered years, usually in June. During these weeks demand for cars rises sharply; book early. Multi-car event transportation and delegation movements for the government and diplomatic programme are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing.
Business travel and roadshows
For investor meetings across the 8th arrondissement and La Defense, a car on hourly chauffeur service (minimum three hours) waits between appointments. The financial roadshows programme handles multi-city schedules, for example Paris, London and Frankfurt in one week. A corporate account gives monthly invoicing, cost centres and traveller profiles. Private flyers should book through Paris Le Bourget, since business jets rarely use CDG.
Your fare and the cancellation terms
The CDG fare is fixed and covers the vehicle, the chauffeur, flight tracking and the included waiting for your flight type. The rates page sets out planning ranges class by class. Cancelling more than 72 hours before pickup costs nothing. Inside 72 hours the charge is 10%, inside 48 hours it rises to 50%, and inside 24 hours, or if you do not appear, it is 100%.
