The Kahului Airport layout
OGG has one main terminal with open-air walkways and gates along a single building, plus a separate consolidated rental car facility reached by an electric tram. Baggage claim is on the ground level, and the commercial ground transportation areas are across the roadway from it. West Maui trips follow the Honoapiilani Highway past Lahaina, where rebuilding after the August 2023 wildfire continues. Hawaii takes biosecurity seriously. Passengers arriving from the mainland complete the state's plant and animal declaration, and fresh fruit, plants and soil are restricted; the Hawaii Department of Agriculture explains the rules. On the way home, checked and carry-on bags for mainland flights go through a USDA agricultural inspection before security, so allow extra time and set the departure pickup accordingly.
Road to Hana, Haleakala and island touring
