Malaga Airport (AGP): terminals and pickup
Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport is Spain's fourth-busiest airport and the gateway to Marbella. Passengers use two connected buildings: T3, the main terminal that handles most international flights, and the older T2, used mainly for some domestic and European routes, joined to T3 by a walkway. The airport operator Aena sets aside dedicated parking areas for pre-booked cars with drivers, and that designated area is the standard pickup point for a BlaakLane.com booking; your confirmation tells you which one to walk to. Because AGP handles large numbers of flights from the UK, which is outside Schengen, passport control can be slow on summer weekends. Since 10 April 2026, travellers who are not EU or Schengen citizens register fingerprints and a facial image under the Entry/Exit System (EES) at their first Schengen entry, which adds time at the booths. ETIAS has not begun operating, and the European Commission has not named a date. EU details are on the travel-europe portal. The 60-minute included wait starts at actual landing, so a normal queue at passport control is covered.
The AP-7 toll road or the free A-7
Two roads link the airport and Marbella. The A-7, the old coast road, is free but runs through Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola, with roundabouts, traffic lights and holiday traffic. The AP-7, the Autopista del Sol, runs inland above them, is faster and less congested, and has toll plazas at Calahonda and San Pedro de Alcantara on the Marbella stretch and at Manilva further west. Tolls are higher during the summer season and around Easter.

Puerto Banus, the Golden Mile and the Marbella map
Marbella stretches for about 25 km along the coast, and where you stay changes the drive. The old town, around the Plaza de los Naranjos, is a maze of whitewashed lanes, so the chauffeur meets you at its edge. West of the centre, the Golden Mile (Milla de Oro) runs towards Puerto Banus, with the Marbella Club Hotel, Puente Romano and Nobu Hotel Marbella facing the sea and the gated villas of Sierra Blanca behind. Puerto Banus, about 6 km west of the centre, is the marina town of designer boutiques and yacht berths. Inland, Nueva Andalucia is the golf valley, with Los Naranjos, Las Brisas and Aloha courses. San Pedro de Alcantara is the next town west, and the hill village of Benahavis leads to the Anantara Villa Padierna and the gated La Zagaleta estate. East of the centre are Los Monteros, Elviria and the beaches of Cabopino.

Yacht arrivals at Puerto Banus
Puerto Banus is the busiest luxury marina on the Costa del Sol, with berths for large yachts along its outer quays and a pedestrianised waterfront that fills on summer evenings. Guests flying into Malaga to join a yacht, crew changing over between charters and owners heading out for dinner make up much of the marina work. Tell us the yacht name and berth; the chauffeur waits at the marina's vehicle access point, since the quayside promenade is closed to general traffic at busy times. Other marinas along the coast, including La Bajadilla in Marbella town, Estepona and Sotogrande, work the same way.

Other airports: Gibraltar and Seville
Gibraltar International (GIB) is about 75 km west of Marbella, typically 55 to 80 minutes, and is handy for the Sotogrande end of the coast. Since the EU-UK treaty on Gibraltar began to apply on 15 July 2026, routine checks at the La Linea land border have been removed and Schengen entry checks take place at Gibraltar's airport instead, so the road crossing into Spain is much quicker than before. Marbella through the year

Trains, cruise ships and intercity routes
Marbella has no railway station. The nearest commuter rail terminus is Fuengirola, about 28 km east, and high-speed AVE trains from Madrid arrive at Malaga Maria Zambrano, about 60 km away and 45 to 65 minutes by car. Rail times are on Renfe. Cruise ships call at the Port of Malaga, next to the city centre, about 60 km from Marbella; transfers are timed to your disembarkation window. The road to Ronda climbs through the Serrania de Ronda with tight bends; a sedan or SUV is more comfortable than a van for anyone prone to car sickness. Day trips can be booked as city tours and day trips.
Driving realities on the coast
Spain drives on the right. The A-7 through Marbella town is a busy urban road, with traffic lights and frequent roundabouts, and summer evenings bring queues at the Puerto Banus exits. Parking in the old town and the marina is limited, so chauffeurs drop you at the closest allowed point and wait nearby. Speed cameras are common on both the A-7 and the AP-7, and rules are set by Spain's traffic authority, the DGT. Rain is rare, but the first autumn storms can flood underpasses, and dispatch reroutes if needed.
Golf transfers on the Costa del Sol
The coast between Malaga and Sotogrande has one of the densest concentrations of golf courses in Europe, and golf groups are a steady part of Marbella work from autumn to spring. Typical requests are an airport pickup with clubs, daily runs from a Nueva Andalucia villa to tee times at different courses, and a day at Valderrama or the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, about 45 km west.
