Son Sant Joan Airport: one terminal, four modules
Palma de Mallorca Airport, known locally as Son Sant Joan, is about 8 km east of the city centre and is one of the busiest airports in Spain in summer. It is run by Aena and has a single large terminal with boarding modules A, B, C and D; arrivals are on the ground floor. The Port of Palma: cruise terminals and timing
The Port of Palma is one of the main cruise calls in the Mediterranean and is managed by Ports de Balears. Large ships usually berth at the Dique del Oeste in Porto Pi, about 4 km from the cathedral, while some smaller ships use the Estacion Maritima closer to the centre. The Balearic government and cruise lines agreed to limit Palma to about three ship calls a day, with no more than one very large ship.

Trains and day trips
Mallorca's rail network starts at the Estacio Intermodal under Placa d'Espanya, with SFM trains to Inca, Sa Pobla and Manacor. Driving in Palma and Mallorca
Traffic drives on the right. Palma has a low-emission zone (ZBE) managed by the city council, which restricts vehicles without a Spanish DGT environmental label; details are on the Palma city council site. The old town has narrow streets and access-controlled areas, so the chauffeur may stop at the nearest permitted point for some hotels. Mountain roads in the Tramuntana, especially the Ma-10 to Deia and Soller and the road to Formentor, are narrow and busy with cyclists in spring; Formentor restricts private car access in peak summer months.

Departures from PMI: how early to leave
Summer departures from Palma are the part of a trip that most often goes wrong, because the terminal handles very large crowds on weekend mornings. For a Schengen flight, aim to reach the terminal two hours before departure; for the UK, North America or other non-Schengen destinations, allow two and a half to three hours, since exit passport control can be slow. From the old town that means leaving about two and a half hours before a Schengen flight. From Port d'Andratx or Deia add 30 to 40 minutes, and from Pollenca, Alcudia or Cala d'Or add about an hour.
If you are finishing a cruise and flying the same day, book the ride from the terminal to PMI with a buffer; disembarkation usually runs through the morning in groups.
