The Balearic government and the cruise industry agreed a cap on the number of ships that can call at Palma on the same day, which spreads arrivals out but keeps turnaround Saturdays busy. Embarkation: the drop-off at the Dique del Oeste
The breakwater is long, and walking it with cruise luggage is not realistic. Pre-arranged cars drive along the Dique to the terminal building for your ship and stop at the drop-off area, where porters take tagged bags. Allow 10-15 minutes from hotels in the old town or on the Paseo Marítimo, 20-30 minutes from Portals Nous or Port d'Andratx, and 45-60 minutes from the north of the island. Arrive at the start of your check-in window; lines close boarding about two hours before sailing.
Disembarkation: where the chauffeur meets you

Port-day tours on Mallorca
An hourly chauffeur, three hours minimum, collects you on the Dique. Three hours covers La Seu cathedral, the old town and Bellver Castle, the round castle above the bay. Five to six hours reaches the Tramuntana mountains: Valldemossa (25-30 minutes), Deià and the coast road to Sóller (30-40 minutes through the tunnel). A full day can take in Cap de Formentor, about an hour and a quarter north-east, though the road to the lighthouse closes to private cars at peak times in summer and the chauffeur will plan around that. Mountain roads in the Tramuntana are narrow, busy with cyclists in spring and autumn, and restricted for coaches in places.
