The OPT is the berth with the famous view: the ship ties up at Circular Quay West, between the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Park Hyatt, facing the Opera House. The terminal building and car forecourt sit on Hickson Road and the quay level. The terminals are managed by Port Authority of New South Wales, which publishes the ship schedule.
Cruise lines and the Sydney season
Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Celebrity, Cunard and Norwegian are among the lines that homeport or call in Sydney, and luxury and expedition ships visit too. The season runs mainly from about October to April, with ships on Pacific, New Zealand and coastal Australia routes. New Year's Eve and the harbour's summer weekends are the busiest days.
Drop-off on sailing day at Circular Quay
The chauffeur approaches via Hickson Road and stops at the terminal's set-down area, where porters take tagged cases. Access roads around The Rocks are narrow and shared with buses, taxis and pedestrians, so traffic controllers may direct cars into a queue. Arrive near the start of your check-in window. From CBD hotels, allow 10-15 minutes; from Bondi or the eastern suburbs, 25-35 minutes; from the airport, 20-40 minutes.
Disembarkation: where pre-arranged cars wait
After Australian Border Force processing and baggage reclaim, arrivals leave the terminal to a pickup area where taxis, coaches and pre-booked cars are held in separate lanes. Your chauffeur waits in the pre-booked vehicle area, not inside. Ships dock early in the morning; book your pickup for your group time plus 30-45 minutes. Waiting is free for 15 minutes after the booked time and charged in 15-minute steps afterwards.
Call or text the chauffeur when you are through. A name board at the terminal exit can be added as meet and greet; add-ons are only available in selected locations.

The Park Hyatt sits beside the terminal, and the Four Seasons, Shangri-La, InterContinental, Capella and Pullman Quay Grand are all within a few minutes. Darling Harbour and Barangaroo hotels, including Crown Sydney, are 10 minutes away. A hotel to ship transfer is a simple point-to-point booking, even when the hotel is next door and you have a lot of luggage.
Port-day touring from Circular Quay
With an hourly chauffeur (three hours minimum):
- Harbour and beaches. Watsons Bay, The Gap and Bondi, with the coastal walk to Bronte.
- Northern Beaches. Manly, then up the peninsula to Palm Beach.

Driving in Sydney: tolls and traffic
Australia drives on the left. Sydney has an extensive toll network, including the Harbour Bridge and Harbour Tunnel, the Eastern Distributor and the WestConnex motorways. Weekday peaks run from about 07:00 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 18:30.
