Sydney Airport terminals and pickup
Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) has three passenger terminals on two sides of the airfield. Terminal 1 is the international terminal. Terminals 2 and 3 are the domestic precinct: T3 is used by Qantas domestic flights, and T2 by Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Rex and others. The two sides are about 4 km apart by road, so it matters which one you land at.
Pickup is curbside in the designated area for pre-booked hire cars at your terminal; the confirmation gives the zone and a contact number for the chauffeur. A meet and greet with a name board at the arrivals exit is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations. International arrivals clear Australian Border Force and biosecurity inspection before reaching the arrivals hall, which is one reason the included wait starts at actual landing.
From the airport, chauffeurs use Southern Cross Drive and the Eastern Distributor to the CBD and eastern suburbs, or the untolled Sydney Gateway to join WestConnex towards the Inner West and Parramatta.

Western Sydney International, opening October 2026
Sydney's second airport, Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport at Badgerys Creek, is scheduled to open to passengers on 25 October 2026, with a first wave of domestic and international services. It sits roughly 45 to 55 km west of the CBD, so trips from there are longer than from Kingsford Smith: allow about 50 to 80 minutes to the city, and much less to Penrith, Liverpool and the Blue Mountains. Enter the airport as your pickup address in the booking engine; the flight number still drives the timing.
Cruise terminals: Overseas Passenger Terminal and White Bay
Sydney has two cruise terminals, and your ship's height decides which one it uses.
- The Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) at Circular Quay West, under the Harbour Bridge and facing the Opera House, takes ships that fit under the bridge deck. It is 5 to 10 minutes from most CBD hotels, but the approach along Hickson Road and George Street is tight on changeover mornings.
- White Bay Cruise Terminal, on the Rozelle and Balmain waterfront west of the bridge, serves ships too tall to pass under it. It is 10 to 25 minutes from the CBD and about 30 to 50 minutes from the airport.
The busiest months run from October to April. Disembarkation is staggered, so give the chauffeur your deck and group number in the booking notes and allow the standard 15 minutes of included waiting to start from your requested time. The business map: CBD, Barangaroo, North Sydney and Parramatta
The CBD runs south from Circular Quay along George, Pitt and Macquarie Streets, with the banks and law firms around Martin Place. Barangaroo, on the western harbour edge, holds newer headquarters towers and Crown Sydney. Across the bridge, North Sydney is the second office centre, and Macquarie Park further north hosts pharmaceutical and technology campuses. Parramatta, about 25 km west, is Sydney's fast-growing second CBD. Moving between these can take longer than the distances suggest: North Sydney to Martin Place is 3 km but 15 to 30 minutes at peak.

Hotels and venues
Harbour hotels include the Park Hyatt Sydney in The Rocks, the Four Seasons on George Street, Capella Sydney in the old Department of Education building, the Shangri-La, the InterContinental near the Botanic Garden, and Crown Sydney at Barangaroo. The Langham is on Kent Street, and W Sydney sits at Darling Harbour. Pier One Sydney Harbour is under the bridge at Walsh Bay.
The International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) at Darling Harbour hosts the city's large congresses, 5 to 15 minutes from CBD hotels. The Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium at Moore Park, Accor Stadium and Qudos Bank Arena at Sydney Olympic Park, and Royal Randwick racecourse are the venues where timing matters most after an event. Olympic Park is 30 to 50 minutes from the CBD and parking there is limited on event nights, so pickup points are agreed in advance.

Driving in Sydney: what to expect
Australia drives on the left. Sydney's peak hours run roughly 07:00 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 19:00, and the Harbour Bridge, the Anzac Bridge, the Pacific Highway and Parramatta Road are the usual pressure points. The Rozelle Interchange, which opened in late 2023, reshaped lane choices for the Inner West, and the Western Harbour Tunnel is still under construction. Mobile-phone detection cameras and point-to-point speed cameras are common, and bus lanes in the CBD are enforced by camera. Light rail runs along George Street through the CBD, so set-downs happen on side streets rather than on the tram corridor.
Entering Australia: ETA, eVisitor and the arrival declaration
Most visitors need a visa or an electronic authorisation before flying. Passport holders from eligible countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom, can apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601) through the official Australian ETA app, for a service charge of AUD 20; citizens of European Union countries can use the free eVisitor (subclass 651), and others apply for a Visitor visa (subclass 600). Check your eligibility with the Department of Home Affairs. On arrival you declare food, plant and animal products; Australia's biosecurity rules are strict and fines are real. The paper incoming passenger card is being replaced by the digital Australia Travel Declaration, rolling out airport by airport through 2026 and 2027, so follow your airline's instructions.
