Darwin International Airport (DRW)
DRW is about 13 km from the city centre and shares its runway with RAAF Base Darwin. International and domestic flights use one terminal building, with the international area at one end. Standard pickup is curbside at the designated pre-arranged pickup area outside the terminal, and the chauffeur messages the location and car once you are on the ground. A name-board meet and greet in arrivals is an add-on; add-ons are only available in selected locations.
Flights are tracked and the pickup follows the actual landing. Included waiting is 60 minutes on international arrivals and 30 minutes on domestic ones, then 15-minute blocks. The city: Waterfront, Mitchell Street and Cullen Bay
Darwin's CBD is compact. Mitchell Street holds the bars and many hotels; the Waterfront Precinct below the Esplanade has the Darwin Convention Centre, a wave lagoon and the Vibe and Adina hotels. Other hotels travellers choose include the Hilton Darwin and the Novotel on the Esplanade, the Mantra on the Esplanade and, a short drive from town, the SkyCity Darwin resort on Mindil Beach. Cullen Bay has marina restaurants, and Mindil Beach runs the famous Sunset Market on Thursday and Sunday evenings in the dry season. Cruise ships at Fort Hill Wharf
The Darwin Cruise Ship Terminal is at Fort Hill Wharf, at the edge of the CBD a few minutes below Smith Street. Ships call mainly in the dry season, often on Asia and around-Australia voyages, and expedition ships to the Kimberley sometimes start or end here. Wet season and dry season
Darwin has two seasons that decide everything:
- Dry season, roughly May to October: warm days, low humidity, the main tourist season, and when Kakadu and Litchfield roads are fully open.
- Wet season, roughly November to April: monsoon rain, spectacular storms, possible cyclones, and floods that close unsealed roads and some sealed crossings in the parks.

Events through the dry
- May: BASSINTHEGRASS music festival.
- July: the Darwin Beer Can Regatta at Mindil Beach, and the start of the Darwin Cup Carnival at Fannie Bay.
- Early August: Darwin Cup Day, the carnival's main race day.
- August: the Darwin Festival, with arts events across the city for about three weeks.

Driving in the Top End
Australia drives on the left. Parts of the Stuart Highway outside Darwin have posted limits up to 130 km/h, higher than anywhere else in Australia, so traffic moves fast. Road trains up to four trailers long share the highway, and overtaking one needs a long clear stretch. Wildlife, including water buffalo and wallabies, crosses at dusk. In the wet season, floodways on park roads close when water is over them; chauffeurs never cross a flooded causeway. There are no toll roads in the Territory. Crocodiles mean no swimming in rivers, estuaries or the sea outside declared safe areas.
Entry rules
International arrivals at DRW clear Australian immigration there. US, Canadian and several Asian passport holders need an Electronic Travel Authority, applied for in the AustralianETA app; most European passport holders get the free eVisitor. Vehicles for the Top End
Sedans suit city and airport runs. An executive SUV is the default for park trips, heat and heavy luggage, and for project staff with field gear. Standard Black SUVs and Sprinter Vans move work crews or families, and minicoaches carry conference delegates. Connections across northern Australia
Darwin is a long way from everything: about 1,500 km to Alice Springs by road, and over 3,000 km to Adelaide. Most onward trips are flights to Perth, Brisbane or Cairns, with a car booked at each end. Airline crews on layover are covered on airlines crew transportation.

No charge more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show. Flight tracking means a delayed arrival never becomes a no-show.
