Perth Airport terminals and the consolidation plan
Perth Airport sits about 12 km east of the CBD, and its layout is the first thing to get right. There are four terminals in two separate precincts on opposite sides of the airfield. At the time of writing:

The two precincts are several kilometres apart by road, roughly a 15-minute transfer, so a pickup booked at the wrong one costs real time. Airline allocations have moved in recent years and still shift, and a long-term plan will consolidate the airport: Perth Airport and Qantas agreed in 2024 to bring Qantas into a new terminal at Airport Central, with a new parallel runway expected around 2028 and the new terminal planned for about 2031. Curbside pickup and meet and greet
Standard pickup is curbside at the terminal's designated pre-booked or commercial vehicle pickup area. A meet and greet with a name board in the arrivals hall is an add-on; add-ons are only available in selected locations, and the engine shows whether it is offered for your arrival. Drive times from the airport
From T1 or T2 to the CBD is usually 20 to 35 minutes via Airport Drive, Tonkin Highway and the Graham Farmer Freeway. From T3 or T4 it is typically 15 to 30 minutes via Great Eastern Highway. Allow 35 to 50 minutes to Fremantle, 30 to 45 minutes to Cottesloe or Claremont and 25 to 40 minutes to the Swan Valley. The Mitchell and Kwinana Freeways are the slowest at weekday peaks, roughly 7 to 9 am and 4 to 6 pm.
Entering Australia through Perth
International arrivals clear Australian Border Force immigration and biosecurity at T1, or at T3 for Qantas international flights. Every visitor except New Zealand citizens needs a visa or travel authority before departure. Passport holders of the United States, Canada, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Brunei and Hong Kong can apply for the Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601) through the official Australian ETA app, which carries a service fee of AUD 20; UK and EU passport holders can use the free eVisitor (subclass 651). New Zealanders receive a visa on arrival. The government is also replacing the paper incoming passenger card with the digital Australia Travel Declaration, and Perth is among the airports scheduled to join the rollout, so on some flights you may still fill in a card. Elizabeth Quay, the CBD and the business districts
The CBD runs along St Georges Terrace and Adelaide Terrace, home to resources companies, banks and law firms. Fremantle cruises and the port
Cruise ships calling at Perth berth in Fremantle at the Fremantle Passenger Terminal on Victoria Quay, about 20 km from the CBD and 30 to 35 km from the airport. The season is mainly from about October to April, with some ships arriving from Asia and Europe at the start and end of repositioning voyages. Victoria Quay is a working port, so pickups happen at the designated passenger area outside the terminal, and we time them to your disembarkation group. From the terminal to Perth Airport usually takes 35 to 55 minutes. Fremantle is also the departure point for many Rottnest Island ferries, alongside Barrack Street Jetty and Hillarys Boat Harbour. Rail and coach arrivals
Perth Station in the CBD is the hub of the Transperth suburban network, and the Airport line added Airport Central station, which serves T1 and T2, in 2022. Long-distance trains, including the Indian Pacific across the Nullarbor and Transwa regional services, use the East Perth Terminal, about 10 minutes by car from the CBD hotels. Driving in Perth
Traffic drives on the left. The road network is built around the Mitchell and Kwinana Freeways along the river and the Graham Farmer Freeway through the tunnel under Northbridge, with Tonkin Highway and Roe Highway around the east. There are no toll roads anywhere in Western Australia. Summer brings heat above 35 °C on many days and bushfire-season closures on some regional roads, which Main Roads WA publishes, and winter rain slows the freeways. Kangaroos are a real hazard on regional roads at dawn and dusk, which is one reason long country trips are best driven in daylight.
