Pickup at Gold Coast Airport (OOL)
OOL has a single terminal on the Queensland side of the border with New South Wales. Pre-booked cars collect from the airport's designated commercial pickup area near the terminal exit, and the chauffeur sends the vehicle details when you land. Flight tracking is standard. Waiting runs 60 minutes from actual landing for international arrivals (Australian Border Force and biosecurity checks can take time), 30 minutes for domestic flights and 15 minutes for other pickups, then 15-minute blocks.
A time-zone quirk: Queensland does not use daylight saving, while New South Wales does from October to April. The terminal and the Coolangatta hotels run on Queensland time, but Tweed Heads across the street is an hour ahead in summer. Book pickups in Queensland time.
From Brisbane Airport (BNE)
Long-haul passengers often land at BNE and drive south on the Gateway Motorway, which is tolled, and then the M1 Pacific Motorway. The trip to Surfers Paradise is typically 70 to 90 minutes, longer on Friday afternoons or holiday weekends when the M1 slows between Loganholme and Coomera. Where you are likely staying
Surfers Paradise has the towers and The Star Gold Coast is in Broadbeach next to the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. Main Beach, on the spit, holds the Imperial Hotel Gold Coast (formerly Palazzo Versace) and Sea World. The Langham Gold Coast and the JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort are in Surfers Paradise. Burleigh Heads and Palm Beach are quieter, and Sanctuary Cove at Hope Island has the marina and golf. Theme parks, including Dreamworld, Warner Bros. Movie World and Wet'n'Wild, sit along the M1 at Coomera and Oxenford, 30 to 40 minutes north of Surfers.

Conventions, weddings and families: planning the logistics
The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach is next to The Star and a short walk from the G:link, but delegates arriving from Brisbane with luggage still need cars, and a large conference can fill the Broadbeach kerbs at 08:00. For groups we stage vehicles on side streets and send each guest a pickup time and a named chauffeur. Incentive groups heading to Sanctuary Cove or a hinterland winery travel together in a Sprinter or minicoach, and a coordinator confirms the programme in writing.
Families are the other big market. A theme-park day works well with a chauffeur who drops you at the gates of Dreamworld or Movie World in the morning and collects at a set time, avoiding car-park queues on the M1. Child seats are available on request at no charge. Weddings at Main Beach, Burleigh Headland or in the Tamborine Mountain venues often need a bridal car plus a shuttle for guests; book the two together so timings are coordinated.
Hinterland, Byron Bay and Brisbane runs
Tamborine Mountain and its wineries are 45 to 60 minutes inland, Springbrook a similar drive with steep, narrow roads. Byron Bay, over the border in New South Wales, is a popular one-way transfer or a full day with a chauffeur. Brisbane business days are simple: book an intercity transfer or keep the car by the hour.
Picking the right car
Couples with two cases fit a Standard Sedan; families with surfboards or golf bags want an executive SUV or Standard Black SUV. Driving on the Gold Coast
Australia drives on the left. The M1 is the spine of the coast and becomes congested near Coomera and Nerang at peak times. The G:link light rail runs from Broadbeach South through Surfers Paradise to Helensvale, connecting with trains to Brisbane, via Translink. Speed and mobile-phone cameras are widespread in Queensland.
Entry rules for Australia in 2026
Every visitor except New Zealand citizens needs a visa or travel authority before flying. Passport holders from the US, Canada, Japan, Singapore and several other countries apply for the Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601) through the official Australian ETA app. Most European passport holders, including the UK, can use the free eVisitor (subclass 651).
