About Gold Coast Airport
Gold Coast Airport is at Coolangatta, at the southern end of the Gold Coast, and is operated by Queensland Airports Limited. Its runway famously crosses the Queensland and New South Wales border. A single terminal building handles both domestic flights, mainly from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth, and international flights, chiefly trans-Tasman services from New Zealand and some routes from Asia and the Pacific.
A time-zone quirk: Queensland does not observe daylight saving time, while New South Wales does. The airport keeps Queensland time, so from October to early April your flight time and a Byron Bay hotel clock can be an hour apart. The booking uses the airport's local time.

Public transport
There is no train at the airport. Translink buses connect the terminal with the coastal strip and with the G:link light rail, which runs along the coast through Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise to the Gold Coast University Hospital and Helensvale, where Queensland Rail trains leave for Brisbane. It is a workable option with light bags; with a family, surfboards or a tight dinner reservation, a private car is simpler.
