Cairns Airport: two terminals, one airport
Cairns Airport (CNS) is about 7 km north of the city centre. Terminal 1 handles international flights, including services from Asia, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand, and Terminal 2 handles domestic flights; the two are a short walk apart. Standard pickup is curbside at the terminal's designated pre-arranged pickup area. Your chauffeur messages the bay and vehicle when you land. Great Barrier Reef days: the handover
Most reef trips leave from the Reef Fleet Terminal at the Cairns Marlin Marina on Spence Street, with morning check-ins and afternoon returns. The chauffeur drops you at the terminal forecourt in time for check-in and meets you at the same forecourt when the boat returns, re-timed if the boat is late. From Port Douglas, boats to the outer reef and the Low Isles leave from Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina; the same handover works there.

Cruise ships at Cairns
The Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal is on Wharf Street at the edge of the city centre, a short walk from the Esplanade for mid-size ships. The largest ships cannot enter the shallow Trinity Inlet channel, so they anchor offshore at Yorkeys Knob or near Port Douglas and tender passengers ashore; the pickup point then depends on the tender landing, and the chauffeur confirms it on the day. Where visitors stay
In the city, the Esplanade and the marina hold most hotels, including the Crystalbrook Riley, Flynn and Bailey, the Hilton Cairns and the Shangri-La The Marina. The Cairns Convention Centre is on Wharf Street. Palm Cove, 30 minutes north, has low-rise resorts under paperbark trees; Port Douglas has larger resorts along Four Mile Beach and Port Douglas Road. - May to October: the dry season, with lower humidity and the main tourist peak.
- June: IRONMAN Cairns, usually mid-June, closes parts of the Captain Cook Highway for the bike leg.
- July: the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair.
- September: the Cairns Amateurs racing carnival.
- November to April: the wet season, with heavy rain, possible cyclones, and the marine stinger season, when swimming is restricted to netted areas.

Driving realities in Far North Queensland
Australia drives on the left. Traffic in Cairns is light, but the region brings its own issues: the Captain Cook Highway can close briefly for rockfalls or flooding in the wet season, cassowary crossing zones near Mission Beach and the Daintree have lower limits, and the Daintree River crossing is by cable ferry. Kuranda Range Road is steep and winding. For event days such as IRONMAN, road closures are published ahead and we route around them.
Entering Australia at Cairns
Everyone except New Zealand citizens needs a visa or electronic authority before boarding. US, Canadian, Japanese and several other passport holders use the Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601) through the official AustralianETA app, and most European passport holders use the free eVisitor (subclass 651). Vehicle choice

Linking Cairns with the rest of Australia
Cairns is a gateway, so many itineraries continue by air to Brisbane, Sydney or Darwin. The coast is long: Brisbane is roughly 1,700 km by road, so book a car at each airport instead. Travel managers can keep multi-city trips on one corporate account.
