Queenstown Airport (ZQN)
ZQN is at Frankton, about 8 km east of the town centre, with one terminal for domestic flights and trans-Tasman services from Australia. Pre-booked transport collects at the ground-level pickup zones signed "Ground Transport"; the chauffeur sends the car details as you land. Flights are tracked; approaches into the Wakatipu basin are weather-sensitive and diversions to Christchurch or Dunedin do happen in winter. Waiting is 60 minutes from actual landing for international arrivals, 30 for domestic flights and 15 for other pickups, then 15-minute blocks. The drive into town on Frankton Road usually takes 15 to 25 minutes, sometimes longer at peak times when State Highway 6 backs up at Frankton.

Ski season: what changes on the roads
The ski season usually runs from mid-June to early October, depending on snow. Coronet Peak is the closest field; The Remarkables sits at the top of a steep switchback access road; Cardrona is reached over the Crown Range Road, the highest main road in New Zealand. The ski areas require vehicles to carry chains on their access roads in winter and the police and road controllers turn back cars without them. Our chauffeurs carry chains in winter and drive these roads daily. When a road is closed for snow or ice, the chauffeur tells you before you leave. Milford Sound, Glenorchy and Wanaka
Milford Sound is a long day by road: about four hours each way through Te Anau and the Homer Tunnel, with photo stops in the Eglinton Valley. The Milford Road can close in winter for avalanche risk, so we build in flexibility and time the drive to your cruise. Glenorchy, 45 minutes along the lake, is the gateway to the Routeburn Track and film locations. Wanaka is an hour over the Crown Range or longer via Cromwell. These are booked as city tours and day trips or one-way intercity transfers.
Wine country and lodges
Gibbston Valley, 20 to 25 minutes east along the Kawarau Gorge, and the Bannockburn and Cromwell basin beyond it produce Central Otago pinot noir; a chauffeur means everyone can taste. Frequent pickups include Eichardt's Private Hotel and The Carlton in town, Sofitel Queenstown, QT Queenstown, the Hilton at Kawarau Village, Millbrook Resort near Arrowtown, Matakauri Lodge on the Glenorchy road and Blanket Bay near Glenorchy. Queenstown through the year
- Summer, December to February: hiking, lake cruises and wine touring at their busiest.
- February or March: the New Zealand Open golf at Millbrook and The Hills, usually around this time.
- Late June: the Queenstown Winter Festival marks the start of the ski season.
- June to early October: ski season and school-holiday peaks in July.
- November: the Queenstown Marathon, with road closures between Arrowtown and town.

Private jets, helicopters and lodge arrivals
Queenstown sees a good deal of private aviation, especially in the ski season and over New Year. Business aircraft use the general aviation side of ZQN, and the chauffeur meets you where the ground handler allows, which is sometimes at the aircraft and sometimes at the handler's lounge. Driving in New Zealand
New Zealand drives on the left, and many visitors are used to the right, which is one reason travellers book a chauffeur. Roads outside town are mostly two-lane, with one-lane bridges where you give way by the signs. Distances take longer than they look on a map. Ice on shaded corners is common on winter mornings.
NZeTA and entry rules in 2026
Visitors from visa-waiver countries, including the US, Canada, the UK and much of Europe, need an NZeTA before travelling, applied for through the official app or online, and most also pay the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy of NZ$100, valid for the two years of the NZeTA. Australian citizens need neither; Australian permanent residents need an NZeTA but not the levy. Other nationalities need a visitor visa.
