Christchurch Airport (CHC)
CHC is about 12 km northwest of the city centre, and the domestic and international sides share one integrated terminal building. The rebuilt central city
Christchurch rebuilt its centre after the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes, and the city you arrive in today is compact and walkable, with most visitors staying inside the four avenues. Te Pae, the Christchurch Convention and Exhibition Centre, stands on Oxford Terrace by the Avon River, and the Riverside Market and Victoria Street dining strip are close by. The TranzAlpine and other rail links
The TranzAlpine leaves Christchurch Railway Station in Addington each morning for Greymouth on the West Coast, crossing Arthur's Pass in about five hours. Many travellers take the train one way and a chauffeur back, or ask for a car at Greymouth. The Coastal Pacific, when it runs, goes north to Picton through Kaikōura. Road conditions in Canterbury
Driving is on the left. The city grid is easy, and the motorways to the airport and south to Rolleston carry most commuter traffic. Beyond the city, State Highway 1 north to Kaikōura runs along a coast that is sometimes closed after slips, and inland routes over Porters Pass and Burke's Pass can need chains in winter. Chauffeurs check the national highway status on NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi before long drives. There are no toll roads in Canterbury.
Entry rules for international arrivals
