The new PDX terminal
Portland International spent several years rebuilding its main terminal under the PDX Next programme. The new terminal core, known for its large timber roof, opened in stages from 2024. Gates are grouped on concourses branching off the central terminal, and all passengers now pass through one consolidated security area. Baggage claim is on the lower level, and international arrivals clear customs in the terminal before entering the public area.

Where the chauffeur picks you up at PDX
Standard service is curbside at the ground transportation area Portland International assigns to pre-arranged vehicles, across from baggage claim and reached by following the Ground Transportation signs. Once you have your bags, text or call the chauffeur, who will confirm the island and bring the car forward. Cars cannot wait at the terminal curb.

MAX light rail
The TriMet MAX Red Line runs from a station at the terminal to downtown Portland in about 40 minutes, continuing west to Beaverton. It is inexpensive and frequent. With luggage, children or an address away from the line, a car is more direct. Timetables are on trimet.org.

Events and busy weeks in Portland
The Rose Festival usually fills late May and June with parades along the waterfront, and the Moda Center hosts the Trail Blazers and big concerts in the Rose Quarter, a few minutes from I-84 on the route in from PDX. Providence Park, home of the Timbers and Thorns, sits on the west side of downtown, and its match days close nearby streets. The Oregon Convention Center in the Lloyd District is one of the closest large venues to the airport. Book early for those weeks and add the venue in your trip notes.
Oregon does not charge sales tax, which is why many visitors from Washington shop in Portland, and weekend traffic on the I-5 and I-205 bridges over the Columbia can be heavy as a result. If you are staying in Vancouver, Washington, the chauffeur will choose the less congested crossing.
